I'm now officially twelve years old; the time has arrived. The fact that it has been a few days doesn't matter to my parents because they still think I am still grounded. At least what they did allowed me to attend school even though it was irrelevant. I figure I might as well enjoy my birthday since it falls on a Saturday. I don't mind doing things on my own if I have to. If I get yelled at today, I will not argue or backstab. Though it might be difficult, it's for the best.
My parents and my brother had already left when I went downstairs to look for something to eat for breakfast. I was confused until I noticed a letter on the refrigerator. It was written in my dad's writing.
Hey, I'm on my way to tell your uncle and aunt about your birthday today along with your mother, brother, and I. We're also going to Uncle Atticus' workplace at Navy Pier. Here is a list of the tasks you have to complete after we return.
To Do List
Sanitize the dining table. Tidy up those dirty dishes. Mop and sweep the floors. Get rid of the trash Spend $200 on celebration decorations. (Balloons, confettj, sodas, chips, fruit, paper plates, red solo cups, napkins) Put the ornaments up.
t's really painful having to complete all these frickin' tasks. I don't think it should be all inclusive on my birthday. My folks didn't even bring up the fact that I was still grounded; how absurd. Now I'll never know if I am. Uncle Atticus and Aunt Paige are the nicest people I've ever encountered. They treat me with the same respect they do with their elder children. They have three children: Austin, Jude, and Molly. Since I was a young kid, they have always taken me to the playgrounds at Lake Michigan Beach Park. The fact that everyone was riding surfboards, children laughing while making sandcastles, snack shops offering drinks and snow cones made the oceans enjoyable to me. Now, they all grew up and living their lives that shows them independence.
As soon as I finished the household duties, it was best to grab the cash and go shopping. I put on my dark grey long sleeve sweatshirt and Tianek green short boots and headed out the door. Not much of a distance to travel. I would drive if I could legally do so. The weather makes it feel particularly humid outside. Cars continued to speed past me, making a jet sound like it was soaring over the ocean skies. I was apprehensive about going to the shop by myself without any assistance from anyone. Before I could react, a blue Corolla Le CVT pulled up to the curb.
