Chapter 1:
Dear Aria,
How have you been darling? I'm so sorry I've had to rush to Delhi. I know you are angry, but I'll be home soon. And I've got a surprise for you. So be a good daughter and don't trouble Dad. DO NOT skip lunch. I miss you baby.
Love,
Mom.
And send.
I set aside my laptop and pick up the small, rectangular frame set on my desk. It has a picture of Aria from last summer. We had been on a vacation in Goa and Aria had insisted me to buy her this frame from a beach-side kiosk. It was a small, wooden frame with three smooth shells on it.
As I hold the frame I realize how much I miss my daughter and how I wish I could fly back to Mumbai this instant. I'm worried about Aria, worried that she would skip her meals again. For sometime now she's been doing this with an intention of keeping her weight in check.
"Teenagers!!" I sigh. Setting the frame on the desk, I walk towards the balcony. Its been raining heavily all morning and it is still drizzling, as I stretch my arm and let the raindrops splatter on my palm. All this reminds me of a rainy day about 25 years ago.
