"Right are you ready?" Said Christine sat at the table with the twins. She had two children Lucy and rose. Rose was the eldest out of the two only by seven minutes though. They both sat opposite Christine they could smell the stench of vodka coming of Christine's breath. When they were about to leave Lucy pulled rose to the side. "Mums been on the booze again hasnt she" she whispered in roses ear
"I think so, but don't say anything at school. This is her last chance"
"I won't"
"Are you going with mum or walking in?"
"Haven't got a clue where to go, so probably get a lift with mum"
"It's called google maps"
"True, still think I'll go in with mum though, she'll go offie won't she which means i can bribe her to buy me irn bru"
"Don't let her buy more vodka, she can't be drinking at work again"
"She's probably already got a bottle stashed in the cupboard me and you both know that"
"I know"
"Are you two coming or what?"
"I'm going to walk on" said rosé walking out the front door. Lucy arrived to school with Christine. Micheal Byrne the head teacher was stood wait g for her at the door
"Ahh mrs mulgrew" he said shaking her hand "Thankyou so much for accepting our offer"
"Thankyou for accepting my application mr Byrne"
"Ahh this must be"
"Lucy sir" she muttered very quietly she could be quite shy, especially around her mum.
"Pleasure to have you at Waterloo road Lucy" Lucy just nodded agreeing
"Lucy, why don't you go see if you can make some new friends"
"Okay" she walked away but she could still hear what her mum was saying
"Thankyou for taking the twins on mr Byrne, our Lucy well she's very bright very into acting, but can be very very shy at times especially when she's not on the stage"
"She seems like a fine young woman to me"
"Oh she is" she nodded
"There was another one wasn't there?"
"Oh yes rose, they will be here in a minute. Think they where a wee bit embarrassed to arrive with me to be honest" Christine went inside with mr Byrne. Lucy paced the gates waiting for word of rose. Finally they arrived
"Well did mum go the offie then" Lucy shook her head
"That's good"
"She's got some in her bag I just know it"
"No she doesn't" rose opened there bag to reveal a bottle of Smirnoff vodka
"Mum is going to kill you"
"Oh well, she deserves it"
"Rose" just then morning bell rang "your not going to drink it are you"
"Depends"
"On what"
"Never you mind"
"What you got first"
"Maths with mr chalk, you?"
"Double English with mum" lucy said rolling her eyes
"Luckily I have mr clarkson for English, won't have to see her jokes of a lesson"
"She's not that bad rose"
"I'll see you later" Lucy wondered to English with Christine. Christine had sat her right at the front
"Er Lucy, did you see rose " she said whispering in her ear
"Yeah" Lucy knew Christine knew taht rose had took the vodka
"Did they have anything on them they shouldn't have"
"No mum"
"Okay" Christine was panicking
"Why?"
"Doesn't matter" she said "Right turn to page 7 everyone" they where around half way through the lesson when rose messaged Lucy.
"Er miss" she said raising her hand "can I go to the loo please"
"Fine but you've got two minutes"
"Yes mrs mulgrew" she said rushing to roses classroom "what do you want"
"Has mum noticed it's missing yet?"
"Yeah, and she doesn't seem very happy about it"
"Good"
"Why are you doing this"
"I'm doing this to make her see sense Lucy, it's not fair on us anymore"
"I know, but there are other ways"
"Like what?"
"Why don't we see if we can get in touch with dad or something"
"Why would he care, he's not bothered in 16 years"
"He sends cards and stuff"
"What you actually believe them"
"I've got to get back to lesson rose, mum will notice I've been gone for too long"
"Okay" tears trickled down Lucy's cheeks as she went back to her lesson, she hated her mums alcholisum as much as rose did but she couldn't face seeing her mum struggling without it. Rose had always tried to stop it. Lucy on the other hand just sat back in silence. When Lucy arrived back to lesson Christine could tell something was up. She pulled her outside for a chat
"Hey sweetheart what's up?" That's when Lucy realised Christine was sobber, for the first time in forever.
"Sorry"
"For what?" She smiled
"Mum"
"Yeah what is it?"
"Are those cards really from dad?"
"Yeah couse they are"
"Okay"
"Why?"
"Oh it doesn't matter"
"What's happened?"
"Nothing everything's fine, I'll be fine in a minute" Christine wrapped her arms around her
"I'm here okay"
"I love you mum"
"I love you too sweetheart" Lucy hadn't seen her mum sober since she was a wee girl, she couldn't wait to tell rose. She was finally stopping drinking! She realised very soon it was too good to be true. After lesson Christine stormed out the school gates.
"Mum where are you going?" She shouted
"To the offie" Lucy knew exactly what taht meant she ran to roses classroom.
Rose could see the tears in her eyes "sis what's up?"
"It's mum, she's going to the offie" Lucy began to bawl
"What's so bad about that"
"You know why rose" that's when Lucy realised they where out of it "you've drank if haven't you"
"No no no don't be daft" rose started flapping there arms about "yeah yeah I have and im on top of the world"
"Why would you be so stupid"
"Take a chill pill, have a drink"
"For crying out loud do you never learn"
"Im just having a bit of fun" the bottle of vodka rolled our of roses bag
"Who's is this?" Said mr clarkson
"It's not mine sir honest" said Lucy
"It's not mine either sir, it's my mums"
"Rose!" She screamed "why would you tell him that"
"Sorry you've lost me"
"It's nothing sir, mums left over stash from a gig she went to a few weeks back. Rose must of thought it was cool to drink it"
"No no no no. Don't lie for her" said rose "she was going to drink it on the job, did you a favour really"
"Cooler now" said Tom
"And where exactly Is that?"
"Follow me" Lucy sat at the school gates waiting for her mum to rerun when she finally arrived Lucy was in bits.
"Mum, you need to go home"
"Why what's happened"
"Just please go home mum"
"What's happened"
"They know"
