Two PillarsRight hand, left hand
Mercy and severity
left and right brain
Division is all the rage
And nuance a thing of
An all but bygone age
Admit no wrong and
See only the right
All in their own eyes
Is everyone right
Only their own thoughts
Projected back at them
Opposites are no longer
Opposites, as they talk in
Circles that never end
Their knowledge is
The worst of science
And religion–dogmatic
And ridgid, always have
Been the same
Now what to do
In an age without compromise?
It brings me back to the words
Of an old folkie who said,
“Half of the people can be
Part right all of the time
Some of the people can be all
Right part of the time
But all of the people can’t be
All right all of the time.”
