The Philosopher’s Blues
*inspired by A Treatise of Human Nature by Hume

O The philosopher’s blues
Come in bad time
Alone once again
And in my own mind
My logic to an end
Is but now a true
Waste of my time
For it has led me
To wonder and to
Wander awry

I know not who I am
Nor from whence I came
Or to what I shall return
So what knowledge can
I begin to attain
With nothing for certain
I've fallen to the pit
Onto what shall I cling
And where do I fit?

I have built my house
On bricks made of sand
And as it goes under
Where shall I stand?

And what shall I do
To overcome the blues
Become a pragmatist,
And avoid the bad news?

Or can I built my foundation
With brick and with stone
To change this situation
That is the philosopher’s own
