I wake up earlier than my alarm clock. I hate when this happens, but I may as well get up. It's an two hours before I need to leave my chambers so I decide to take a walk around the castle.
I get up and make myself decent. I debate on leaving on my pajamas but that would feel awkward if I ran into someone, so against my personal preferences, I put on some robes.I distinctly remember using the room of requirement a lot in my years to practice creating new spells and adding to older ones.
I figure I can get alone time there so I head off.
The once bustling castle has appeared to halt in time as the silence fills the hallways, there's just enough light to get around.
I take a detour to the library to take a look at the forbidden section. Perhaps they have added more books since the last ones I stole away to read during my time here. It'll give me something to read in the room of requirement. A cure to my ever-growing boredom perhaps.
The library is quiet, but I sense someone's presence. Peaking through the shelves I see a figure already lurking beside the section of forbidden books.
I should probably leave, and quickly too so I don't get caught.
I thought.
But I wonder why they're here? It's not like I'll get I trouble, I'm a Professor now after all. I almost feel silly being worried about getting caught still after so many years...like a sneaky teenager. Maybe I have changed as much as I thought.
"Not so fast", I feel my heart sinking already. I'm a teacher so It's not like anyone can get on to me, I can talk my way out of this if I have to.
Or at least that would work on anyone else
"Look what we have here..." Snape said. He approached me and tilted my chin up with his wand ever so slowly, almost threateningly.
I turned my head away out of spite before looking back up into his dark eyes. His deep-set eyes almost looked onyx black in the dark like this."What are you doing lurking toward the forbidden section?", Snape asked. As if he's not doing the same.
"I could ask the same", I replied.
He must have known where I was headed because we were not close to the forbidden section but rather the potion books I was hiding behind.
I'll just have to keep clear thoughts, just in case."I used to read the forbidden books in my time here when I couldn't sleep"
There was no point in lying, plus I didn't have the energy to. Of course it wasn't just when I couldn't sleep, but I had frequent nightmares that woke me as I do now.
"Is that so? What a true Slytherin you are."
I scoffed at his mocking tone.Well no shit Sherlock. I thought.
Snape scoffed.
"And stop reading my thoughts!", I whisper-yelled.
He smirked,"Clever are we? Figured me out so soon, perhaps you have at least one redeeming quality."
I realized how close we were so I leaned into the shelf behind me to make space between us. I began to feel the shelves digging into my back, the smell of books intensifying. Snape noticed and took a step forward to appear more intimidating.
As if he could scary me away with his presence alone. But if anything, he just piqued my interest, I love a good challenge.
We stood there just staring at one another for an tense few seconds. I could hear only his breathing. It was heavy, yet quiet. The rest of the library was coated in the minimal light from the open windows. The room felt empty and stuffy at the same time."At least I appear to have redeeming qualities." I say this mockingly to quip back at his backhanded comment. He only sneers in annoyance as his eyes disregard me.
Well he knows why I'm here, so fuck it.
I go up to the forbidden books and reach for an unfamiliar one about the dark arts. Snape seems interested in what I've picked up.
