Emily had been in town for a few days and things between her and I were still tense. I needed to get her alone but every time I wanted to talk to her, she made she was busy with someone else. I was sitting at my desk and a text came through my phone.
BEAU: Hey, how's today going?
BLAKE: You mean how are Emily and I getting along?
BEAU: Well, I didn't think you would call me out on it but yes.
BLAKE: Well, she's still ignoring me. Wants nothing to do with me and won't even talk to me. Have you even talked to her Beau?
BEAU: Of course, I have, I don't know what else I can do.
BLAKE: Do think maybe...while she is here...we just back off for a while?
BEAU: Are you really breaking up with me before we even get a real start?
BLAKE: Just while Emily is here.
I didn't get a response back from Beau and I sighed putting my phone down. I then grabbed the file I had been looking at and walked over to the big map on the wall. I started pinpointing points on the map pertaining to the case I was working on.
I was working and wasn't paying attention when someone walked in the office.
"Dad!" Emily said excitedly and he walked over to her and kissed the side of her head. I just looked at him and he looked at me.
"Denise, do you mind if I take Emily and Blake out to lunch?" Beau asked and I looked at him oddly but also noticed Emily didn't look happy.
"No, take them, have a good time." Denise said. Beau and Emily walked over to me. Beau took the file from my hand and I sighed.
"Come on. We all need to talk." Beau said setting the file on my desk and I shook my head.
"It's fine Beau, go to lunch with Emily. She is only visiting, gets as much time as you can with her." I said and Beau sighed and looked at Emily.
"No, you should come. I mean you are with my dad, right?" Emily asked and I looked at her shocked since this was the first time she acknowledged Beau and I being together.
"As long as you're sure." I said and she nodded. Beau smiled and I grabbed my stuff as we all headed out. We loaded in Beau's jeep and we headed to the local diner. Once we walked in and got a table Emily sat next to Beau and I sat across from them.
We quickly ordered some burgers and then Beau sighed.
"Okay I know this was a change for you..." Beau started off looking at Emily. "But your mom is with someone, why is it so hard for me being with someone?" Beau asked and Emily sighed. She looked at me and I just shook my head slightly.
"You can say whatever you want about me, I can take it. Trust me, with my past nothing hurts much anymore." I said and Emily looked at me shocked.
"It's just, it seemed to happen so fast. Did you two even talk or anything before you started dating?" Emily asked.
"We did, very little but there was always an attraction." Beau said and winked at me and I shook my head with a small laugh.
"An annoyance really...you dad was pretty annoying." I said and Emily nodded as we laughed together.
"He can be that way...slightly overbearing..." Emily said and I nodded.
"Oh my god yes!" I said. Beau was looking between us in shock.
"Excuse don't bond over my qualities, good or bad." Beau said and I sighed looking at Emily.
"Look, I've never dated a guy with a kids, let alone a teenager. Just know your dad and I aren't super serious, but we like getting to know each other and I know you are a major factor in his life that I would like to get to know, maybe even be acknowledged." I said and she sighed hanging her head.
"Hey, what's going on?" Beau asked.
"It's just you up and left Texas. I mean we didn't even talk about it. You just came to tell us you were leaving and that was that. I didn't get a say or a discussion. Then I came here to find you have moved on to Blake like that's the reason you came. I know it wasn't, but I mean it was so fast. You tell me one of my first nights that you have feelings for her. I just didn't know how to handle it knowing she was new to town as well with a shady past..." Emily was explaining.
"Hey..." Beau said and she sighed.
"Come on, you don't think she isn't hiding information?!" Emily asked and I groaned and Beau sighed.
"Em, come on." Beau said and she sighed.
"I'm an open book about my past Emily. You want to know information about where I come from or what I'm running from, all you have to do is ask." I said and she sighed with a nod.
"I just want you happy." Emily said looking at Beau.
"I am happy, I know my move was sudden, but I needed to get out of Texas. Things were getting hard. I'm happy here though." Beau said and then reached for my hand which I placed mine in his. "And I'm happy with Blake."
Emily just looked at me and Beau and sighed.
"I guess I can try and be open to this." Emily said and I smiled at Emily. Beau brought my hand to his lips and kissed the back of my knuckles.

After lunch we went back to the office. Emily was helping me find places on the map to pinpoint when my case. We were laughing about a town name when Jenny came running through the door. We all looked at her and saw she was covered in blood.
"Jenny?! What the hell?!" Cassie asked rushing to her.
"It's not my blood." Jenny said. I just looked at her confused. She then looked at me and Emily.
"It's Beau's. He's been shot." Jenny said.
