It had been a month since Beau and I had our conversation, and my divorce was final. Beau hadn't moved in but we were discussing what was going to happen since Emily's mom and his ex-wife was coming in to get Emily to take her home.

Beau offered to have Emily fly home, but his ex-wife wanted to come into town and Beau wasn't quite sure, but I knew exactly why.

There was a knock on the door, and I knew it was Beau coming to pick me up. I opened the door in, and Beau smiled at my appearance. I was in a simple dress just with a floral design on it, boots and a jean jacket.

"You look amazing." Beau said and I smiled taking in his black button up and jeans.

"Not so bad yourself Sheriff." I said and then I saw his belt. "You really need to wear the gun?" I asked and he smiled putting his hand on it and sighed.

"After the life you and I have led recently, yes." Beau said and we both laughed. I closed the door, and he took my hand walking me to the jeep. Once he helped me in he got in.

"So, what do I need to know about Cara?" I asked and Beau sighed taking my hand as he drove down the road to the downtown area where we were going to dinner with Cara and Emily.

"That she is my ex-wife and makes my life a living hell sometimes." Beau said and I looked at him annoyed.

"Seriously?! Beau..." I said and he groaned.

"I don't know what you want me to say Blake. I mean there is a reason we got divorced and no matter what she likes to make a lot of people believe it wasn't all on me." Beau said and I sighed. He pulled my hand to his lips and kissed the back of it.

"I just want her to know that no matter what happened Emily was always safe here with you and I." I said and Beau nodded. "Does she know everything?" I asked and he sighed.

"She does. She insisted on being honest especially when I was on edge when she called me while you were missing." Beau said and I groaned.

"Great so we'll never see Emily again." I said and Beau stopped at a red light. He turned to look at me.

"Hey! No, don't say that. You getting kidnapped and almost dying was not on you. You ran away thinking we would all be safer, even Em. I explained that to Cara." Beau said and I half nodded. I just knew this could go horribly wrong tonight and I didn't want to think about never seeing Em again. Once we got to the restaurant Beau opened my door for me and we walked inside. I saw Emily come rushing up to us and hugged Beau and then me.

"She is driving me crazy dad, can't I stay here?" Emily asked and I looked at Beau and I could tell it was killing him to let her go.

"Em, don't. You can come and visit more though. I will work that out with your mom." Beau said. I saw someone come walking up since it seemed like we were waiting for a table. Beau slightly squeezed my hand. She made him tense...I didn't like this at all.

"Cara." Beau said.

"Beau." She said.

Chilly...

"Mom, this is Blake. Dad's girlfriend." Emily said and I smiled at Cara extending the hand that Beau didn't have ahold of since he refused to let go. Cara reluctantly shook my hand.

"About time I meet the woman who put my teenage daughter's life on the line to be a look out for her horrible decisions." Cara said and I instantly felt tense.

"Cara...stop." Beau said and she just groaned.

"Sheriff, your table is ready." The hostess said and we smiled. Beau let Cara and Emily walk in front of us and he looked at me.

"You want to run, we can run." Beau said and I smiled. I kissed his cheek.

"Let's just get this over with." I said and Beau nodded as we walked to the table.

Dinner was going by, albeit tense but we were getting through it. There was a small house band playing and people were dancing. Beau then looked at Emily.

"Care to have a dance with your old man before you leave?" Beau asked and Emily smiled.

"Let's go old man." Emily said and we all laughed. Beau kissed my cheek and walked to the dance floor with Emily. Cara and I smiled as they walked away and then she turned to me.

"So, Beau told me a lot about you before this dinner. Basically, your whole life story since you moved to Big Sky." Cara spoke up and I half nodded.

"I know, he told me." I said.

"Do you have anything you want to say or defend yourself on to me?" Cara said.

"Why must I defend myself and my life to you? I had a shitty ex-husband who made my life a living hell, then kidnapped me. I don't know what else you want me to defend or say." I said and she sighed.

"How about using my teenage daughter as a look out! Do you now how dangerous that was?!" Cara said.

"Yes and I regret it every minute of every day, especially after what I went through when I was taken. Listen, I know I made some very shitty decisions and I wish I could take them back, I really do but I don't have a time machine. I can't go back and fix every mistake I made. The only thing I can do is work towards the future." I said.

"Well, I hope you don't plan on seeing Emily in your future..."

"Why wouldn't I? If I'm still with Beau when she comes to visit..."

"I'm going to make it very clear to Beau, if he is still with you when Emily comes to visit you are to not see her. You had one chance with my daughter and when I trusted her with you, you put her life on the line." Cara said and I groaned.

"Cara please understand -..."

"I don't have to understand anything! You will never see Emily again." Cara snapped.

"Mom!" Emily said as she and Beau came walking up to the table.

"Emily, it's okay sweetie, don't get involved." I said and she shook her head.

"No Blake, this is not okay. Mom, I love you and I love dad and I even love Blake. Do you know that day I was a lookout for her I asked her to take me with her? She didn't want to take me but I went anyway. I was grateful I was a lookout for her that day. It may not have been smart but what's done it done. Now I want to come and visit dad more and he will be with Blake, I know they will. I will see her whether you like it or not." Blake said and I smiled at Blake and couldn't help but look at Beau who looked so proud of Emily.

"Emily..."

"No mom! You can't treat me like a child anymore. I'm done I want to make choices in my own life, and I want to make the choice of where I live, and I want to live here in Big Sky with dad." Emily said.

"You did this!" Cara said pointing her finger at me and I was taken aback.

"No, she didn't Cara, Emily just broke this news to me too. She wants to move here and be with me." Beau said.

"Emily, what about your friends and school...me?" Cara asked.

"Mom, I can talk to my friends on the phone, I can get a new start in a school. Start fresh and be with dad." Emily said and Beau put his arm around Emily.

Cara just looked at both of them and groaned.

"Fine, have fun living with you dad. Don't come crying to me when he picks everything else over you like he did with me." Cara said and walked out of the restaurant, and I sighed.

Emily sat down next to me and hugged me.

"You sure about this? Really?" I asked.

"So sure." Emily said and I looked at Beau who was smiling.

"Now we need to talk about your living situation..." I said and Beau nodded.
