How could this happen? Sure MK hated Macaque for what he did to Marnie along with trying to kill his brother, Mugman, some time ago, but Marnie is his friend; he would never make fun of her no matter what she thought. They're very close like brother and sister but now they're not as close as they used to be and he could blame most of it on the Solars. As much as he hated seeing Marnie evil, a part of him felt that the Solars deserved it big time with how they treated her lately.
He noticed recently how Marnie and Macaque were around each other a lot and he understood Marnie's need to help him since the shadow play. He watched from afar to make sure that she was okay despite the fact that Macaque was an old friend of his and his adoptive father's former mentor. To be honest, they haven't been really good friends lately since that one argument in the past. Macaque was jealous of how long he's been with his siblings compared to him, leading to some problems between them.
He also noticed how Marnie changed over time. First, she hung out with the shadow master and his adoptive daughter, Amelia. Then, they did enemy mine situations to achieve a common goal while talking about mundane things here and there and maybe fought a few times. As she hung out with him more, he overheard from many Solars about what they thought about their leader's recent affairs with him. It wasn't very nice and he tried to get them to stop, but his warnings were pushed away and now he saw a new Marnie but it's not the kind, compassionate, helpful one he knew. Everytime he approached her now, it was met with glares or snippy comments on the Solars' behavior to her. MK became really furious as to what she became, even agreeing with Ms. Chalice and Mugman to punch whoever made fun of her.
This wasn't the only thing that MK experienced. He thought that he can go on with his life, but he was wrong due to Chalice and Red Son coming over to the Phantom residence to tell him about the chaos within the Solars. With friends turning on friends and couples breaking up, MK was surprised to hear that and feared the worst. However, his boyfriend, Red Son, wanted to talk about those things and sort them out. He told MK that he saw many of the breakup notes in Crystal Tokyo from the Solars' mass breakup and checked if any were written by him since he sort of feared that the turmoil would end their relationship. Fortunately, MK told the demon that he never wrote nor planned to write any of the notes since he still wanted to be with him despite the fact that his fellow peers in the Solars were doing so. Red Son admitted that a couple of Solars approached him earlier during the day and asked if he was going to break up with MK, but he got them to buzz off. He would rather check up on MK and spend time with him rather than have them invade his business.
"So anyways noodleboy. I ran into ghost goblet here and she told me that she was going to deliver some stuff that belonged to Ms. Team Leader to here. She does miss her a lot, considering that she's her sister. But at least she along with Cupboy, Mugboy, you, and others showed sympathy for her," said Red Son. "I've never seen Mugboy this sensitive before. He's been worrying ever since that shadow master took her. He is always whining on how Ms. Team Leader would break up with him given their poor treatment of her."
"Yeah. I can see that Red. The Solars haven't been treating Marnie very nicely as of lately which was how we got to this problem in the first place. I know they had good intentions to protect her at first, but it blew out of proportion later on. I tried doing something to stop her and now we ended up losing her. It reminds me of how Macaque tried to turn Mugman to his side which failed but eventually he got to Marnie instead. Now that she's gone, it's like we lost someone who will always have our back and the only thing I have of her right now are these drawings of her since I draw her a lot besides other people like my friends and family. Without her, the team has been fractured into pieces and we literally can't go literal seconds without a fight breaking out between us. Things aren't going back to the way it was, but it seems that we along with a few others are the last hope at getting the group back together and making it better than ever."
"And then after we get the Solars together again, you can parade me around again just like the days when the Solars were together and not having any silly fights at the drop of a hat," Red Son pondered.
"Well we don't know when these days would return, but even though we lost a friend, what I know is that there will never be an end to these days where we would just be together. No Solar wars or anything occuring between them is going to make me lose my boyfriend."
"Sounds pretty heroic if you ask me," replied Red Son. But as soon as they knew, the boys looked at each other for a moment before they leaned in closer, pecking their lips together. Right now, they can focus on simply enjoying this, nothing else.
A few minutes later, they pulled apart to catch their breath.
Aw. Isn't that sweet. Chalice thought as the two indulged in their moment.
"I guess this can be our little secret, noodleboy. No matter how long these foolish arguments go," said Red Son.
"Well, I suppose it can," MK smiled, entwining his fingers with his boyfriend.
"I'm standing right here guys, so that makes three of us that know the secret of this relationship," Ms. Chalice shouted.
"Oh right," the couple responded simultaneously.
