Bucks pov

"Chris! Mel's! Melany! Christopher!" I yelled for what felt like the hundredth time.

I had walked for hours searching for them, Eddie trusted me with Chris and lost him and Melany is my only daughter, I've already scared her enough, that fact she's out there alone scared me more than anything.

"MELANY! CHRISTOPHER!" I yelled again, my voice grew weak from yelling.

"Have you seen a little girl 4 years old her name is Melany, she has Dirty blonde hair a pink T-shirt and brown overalls? Or a boy 8 years old yellow T-shirt?" I asked a group of people.

"No, I'm sorry." A lady says.

I saw a dead body on the ground and the thought crossed my mind. No, no they can't be. Right now I feel like an terrible father.

I then saw something red in the distance, when I picked it up it was Christopher glasses, when I looked out I saw Penny Melanys bunny floating along the water.

"Who you calling?" Bosko asked.

"My son. Lost his mother a few months ago don't want him to worry." I replied.

"Hey, Buck it's me I just want you to tell Christopher I'll be a little picking him up, get our hands full here. It's a good thing you're missing it. Hope you guys are having fun." I hung up the phone and put it back.

"Hey! There's a kid under here!" I heard a women yell.

Could it be Mel's or Chris? I ran over and tried to lift it.

When they pulled out the teenage girl I was slightly disappointed.

"Hey, hey, hey, excuse me. I'm looking for an eight-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl. There names are Christopher and Melany. There always smiling and the boy has got CP, Cerebal Palsy. He's got-he's got brown hair y-yellow shirt. And the girl she's got dirty blonde hair, pink shirt and overalls." I explained.

"Yeah, yeah. I think I saw him." A guy said.

"Where?" I asked.

"He was headed with a group to that Cupcakery place. I heard they're handing out water." The guy said.

"Uh, Cupcakery, what is that?" I inquired.

"You know, cupcake bakery. It's about six or seven blocks south of here on Strand." The guy responded.

"Thank you. Thank you. Oh, what about the girl?" I stopped.

"Haven't seen her." The guy shrugged.

I was glad Chris had been seen but I was still worried about Mel's. I really needed Melany to be okay she was my only kid and I can't lose her.

I found the place that guy was talking about and I looked around for Chris.

I saw a boy and it looked like Christopher so I ran over.

"Christopher! Christopher! Christopher." When I got close though it wasn't him..

"Mister, are you okay?" A boy asked and I turned around "you're bleeding."

I looked at my arm and saw blood from my arm.

"Can I get you something for that?" The boy asked as they helped me sit down.

I made it to the tents and saw kids, adults, boys, and girls all being treated and I found a lady maybe they were here.

"Uh, hey, excuse me. I'm-I'm looking for two kids. Um, they're names are Christopher Diaz and Melany Buckley. The boy has brown hair yellow shirt and the girl has dirty blonde hair and Pink shirt with brown overalls." I said to her.

"How old?" She asked.

"Christopher is 8 maybe 9 and Melanys 4." I responded.

"Christopher Diaz and Melany Buckley." She checked her chart.

"No, not here. You may wanna check over  there at the back tent." The lady pointed to the tent with all the dead bodies.

"Isn't that the..." I stammered.

"The morgue." She finished.

As she walked away I felt tears swell in my eyes there not dead and I know it! They can't be..

I called Maddie 'cause at this point I was panicking.

"Hello?" She had finally picked up.

"Hey, it's me." I had to use someone else phone since mine got busted in the wave.

"Buck? Where are you? I don't know this number."

"I borrowed someone else's phone. Maddie, I need your help." I told her.

"Okay, um, tell me what's wrong. Are you hurt?"

"Eddie dropped Christopher off with me. He-he thought, you know, doing some activities with him and Mel's would-would get me out of my apartment and... out of my head. Maddie, I brought them to the pier." I explained to her.

"Oh my God, you were there?"

"I had them. All right, Mads? I-I had them I-I kept them safe. We were, uh...we were on top of the ladder truck, then the water receded..." I said.

"Okay, you're not answering me. Are you injured, bleeding?"

"No, it doesn't matter. Don't you hear what I am saying? Christopher and Melany are gone." I muttered out "I've checked the emergency refuge camps at the Promenade at the high school-"

"Okay, did you check the VA hospital? The Command center you know, on Sawtelle?"

"I'm here now and he..." I stopped when I saw Eddie "Oh, God. God, God, no."

"What?"

"Eddie's here." I whispered.

"Does he know what happened? Evan you have to tell him."

"How? How do you tell your best friend that you lost his son?" I asked with my voice breaking.

"No, no, no. He's his father. Okay, you have to tell him that Christopher's missing."

"No, Maddie, I need to keep on looking for him, I need to find him." I refused.

"Buck, you are in no condition to go looking for Christopher and Melany by yourself. Im coming down there."

"No, no. Maddie! Maddie!" She hung up the phone and I knew what I had to do.

"Buck? Wait what are you doing here? Are you okay? Wait, where's Christopher and Mel's?" Eddie walked up to me.

"Eddie..." I said.

"Why do you have his glasses?" Eddie asked.

"We, um... me and Christopher and Melany, we were...at the beach, and um... and listen to me, okay? I-I swear to you...Okay, I-I tried...And I just... but I... Eddie, I just don't know how to say it. Um, he-he just-he... he just vanished."

"Christopher?" Eddie looked away from me.

I turned and saw Christopher with a lady but no Melany.

"Buck, what happened to you?" Chimney asked.

"You two okay?" Bobby asked.

I felt myself fall forward.

They caught me and put me down slowly.

"Where's Melany?" Bobby looked around.
