~Colin's POV~

It's a good thing I had so many errands to run. It has, for the most part, kept my mind from drifting to Emery and what she is doing. How have I grown so... dependent was the wrong word but I'm not really sure what to call it. I haven't even had sex with her, maybe that was the problem.

"Sir, Miss MacWan's driving record," Reese says to me as I slid into the backseat, from our final stop of the afternoon.

I shift to peer at his laptop between the two middle seats. I narrow my eyes a little "two speeding tickets in the past year? Well, this will be the last time she drives Emery around."

I breathe a soft sigh running my hand through my hair, before checking my watch. I have run all of my errands and I still have at least an hour and a half to kill before Emery will be done at the spa.

"Let's go pay Joyce a visit," I mutter after a moment of debating what to do with myself.

"Yes, sir," Reese says, shutting his laptop he starts the car and pulls away from the curb.

"Do you have any updates on that Gordan guy?" I ask.

"No, sir, he hasn't checked into any hospital," Reese says.

I frown a little. "Hmm... I guess Charles went a little too easy on him." I sigh a little running my hand through my hair again.

Joyce's house is only half a dozen blocks from my own. It sits on a large lot backing out onto the park that I found Emery sleeping in. The house is a large two-story and is full of character. In the summer the yard is always lush, perfectly green and full of beautiful flowers, right now however, it is brown like practically everything else. Walking up to the large oak doors I reach for the doorbell.

It's only a moment before Gael opens the door. He is a strong, sturdy 6'0 man with deep-set green eyes and thinning black hair. He is currently wearing a pair of black slacks and a golf shirt. "Oh hello, Colin."

I nod formally to him "Gael. Is Joyce home?"

"She is, yes. Come in," he says stepping out of the way.

I step into the house taking my jacket off.

"Did you see the Hawks game last night?" Gael asks as he leads me into the den.

"No, I didn't, did we win?" I ask him.

"Course no," Gael says with a small laugh of disbelief. "The Leafs are playing far too good for us to handle this year."

I nod slowly. This has always been our relationship. I have never been all that warm or close to Gael, he made attempts to change that when I first came to live with him and Joyce, but it wasn't really a successful endeavour. It's not that he is not nice, he is, but he made the mistake of wanting to be like some adoptive father or stepfather to me, trust me I've had enough of fathers for a lifetime. My denial to see him as anything but some older roommate sort of put a wedge in our relationship and I'm not interested in fixing it. So, we talk about sports and only stay in each other's company for the bare minimum.

"Colin."

I turn to Joyce when she enters the room with a warm smile. "Hello, Joyce." She steps closer and wraps me in her usual hug of greeting. I think this is another thing that put a wedge between Gael and I, I've always been warm towards Joyce. I let her hug me while I barely let Gael even give me a handshake, I talk to Joyce about my problems and share my dreams and interests with her, which I never do with Gael.

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything," I say.

"Goodness no, it's just a lazy Sunday for us," Joyce says. She glances over her shoulder at the dark brown-haired late-teen boy standing behind her. "Brandon come introduce yourself."
