it's a mediocre Saturday afternoon as I'm sliding on a pair of Adidas sneakers to walk off to my shift for work, I work as a barista in a cafe down the road from my house, so I have no trouble taking the bus. as I'm walking on the sidewalk I have my headphones in my ears and my keys dangling from my finger.
I enter the door as the bell rings above me, I walk behind the counter and lay an apron on me and tie my hair into a slick ponytail, my work friend greets me.
'i forgot to tell you, the manager informed me that there is a new person who is taking the training here for the job as a cashier. there's a chance you might have to train them.' she comes over to mention
I wander off a bit since I just got here and wasn't fully focused, but once my mind was straight I didn't even really think much of what the new person might be like, I'm always open to training new people anyways, it gives me a chance to make a new friend.
as I'm restocking the cutlery while I wait for this newcomer, the bell chimes as I look up and enter the gaze of a familiar face... of course it was him, why is a guy like him at a cafe?
I could see him catch my eyes as I stared deep into his, right before I could even roll my eyes back he beats me to it. I groan as my face hides in my palm, I mumble 'great' under my breath. just as I uncover my face I see him right in front of me leaning over the counter. his veiny hands run through his locks of brown hair. I look at him with no emotion.
'what can I get you?' i frown.
'im here for my training' he replies, with a smart grin to it. my eyebrows raise and my eyes widen, why would someone like him need a job? he's stable, has money, and he's put together, so why is he working? is he tired of living off his parents? did they kick him out? not that I blame them if they did...
'why are you finding a job here? I saw what car you were in, how much more money could you possibly want?' I raise one eyebrow, throwing absolute sass at him. he throws back a snarky response 'so you were watching me?' he smirks. I blush a light pink, due to embarrassment, 'what? ew... in your dreams' I stutter out. who does he think he is? acting all cool and slick, as if every girl wants him? well, not me!
'just get behind the counter and ill show u how to work the cashier machine first' I roll my eyes, and he walks around the counter as I back away for him to stand in front of the machine. I show him what buttons to press, and how to greet customers. I give him a few test runs and we move on to a few other things, where to find the bulk of the ingredients, the kitchen, and the restocking.
it hits 6 pm, and while I'm going into the break room to grab my bag out of my locker I come past him talking up the girls over the counter since he was wiping down the counters, he had the rag hanging off his shoulder, running his hands through his hair. of course he had to talk to any girl in his radar. how classic.
I take my apron off and untie my hair, I throw my shoulder bag on and leave the cafe from the back, once I appear out the front stuart had opened the main entrance just in time for us to clash into each other again.
I'm sitting on the floor like always, as he just looks down at me with that stupid smirk... 'my bad' he says, and just walks off past me. god, I hate him so much, he has no care for respect. I cannot stand him. if I could I wouldn't have even given him the job if I was the manager, he has no respect for anyone who doesn't fit in with his level.
I guess we are just co-workers now.
