[UNEDITED]

The laughter of Jedediah's sister echoed through the living room.

Jed narrowed his eyes at her and crossed his arms.

You could hear the rain tapping against the window as it poured outside.
It was getting darker and darker.
Perhaps the reason for that was mainly the dark clouds that covered the sky.

A sigh escaped Jedediah's lips.
He leaned back on the couch and turned his look away from his sibling.

"As if!" she shouted with a chuckle, "I don't believe a word you say."

Jedediah's head quickly turned back to her and he let out a 'pff' as he glared at her.

"Why? You don't trust me to have a partner because of 'how I am'?"

His sister smiled at him and grabbed her mug from the small table in front of them.

"Who would even want to date you?" she joked and took a sip of her tea.

Jedediah clicked his tongue, "shut up. How come you're still single then, huh?"

"At least I'm not a liar about it like you are," she said, "listen Jed. If you're lonely, that's fine, there's no need to lie about it."

Jedediah sat up and pointed his thumb to his chest, "me? I'm lying? When will you finally get that I ain't? We've been talking about this for like twenty minutes now!"

The girl glared at him with her arms crossed, a small smile displayed on her face.
Her face told Jed that she still didn't believe a thing he was babbling about.

"How come I've never seen him then?"

Jedediah bursted out laughing.
"Like I have to tell and show you everything I do in life!"

She just ignored his comment and continued, "you know what, why won't you call him, huh? If there really is someone, you wouldn't chicken out, would you?"

"Oh, yeah? I will call, I will even invite him over right fucking now."
Jedediah stood up from the couch with an angry face and made his way to the staircase.

As he walked up the stairs, he felt this unpleasant feeling inside him.
Jed couldn't believe how she could just accuse him of lying like she just did.
She never seems to take Jedediah serious, and this is not something he will put up with.

"Uh huh. You do that," his sister said.
She still didn't buy it.
She knew her brother—she knew how she'd win this little bet she set up herself.
The girl knew how Jed was, and she knew damn well he doesn't have someone he claims to have.

Jed turned a corner and entered his own room.
He held an angry expression on his face.
Right after he walked in, he slammed the door behind him.

His back leaned against it, and his head hit the wooden door.

Jed stood there like that in complete silence for a few moments.
He didn't move an inch as he stared into nothingness.

"Fuck."
You idiot, Jed.

His sister didn't believe him.
Didn't believe a word he said.
She claimed that Jed was lying about having a boyfriend.
And ... she was goddamn right about that.

Of course he didn't have anyone.

If it's all a lie, why was he so insistent then?
It was just a stupid topic; a stupid question and a stupid answer.
Jed regretted that he got in this dumb argument in the first place.
