Reunions

   It's been several months since Chen Yu stopped serial killer Raymond Hong. The long winter is finally over and spring is in air. Recently, Chen Yu's been working another high profile case, but just closed it yesterday. Unfortunately, Gu Wei is busy with work now too. He's actually looking forward to Daiyu's birthday next month and time away with the family.

   Now, Gu Wei is heading to check on a favorite patient and family member. He knocks and opens the door to see Mrs. Luo looking confused and arguing with an orderly trying to get her in a wheelchair.

"I think you've got the wrong room, definitely the wrong patient." Gu Wei says, looking the man over. "You new? You need to double check your orders. Mrs. L is heading home today." He grins, crossing the room to pat the older woman's shoulder. The orderly bows and dashes out in a hurry, Gu Wei turning back to Mrs. Luo and sitting beside her. "I've got your discharge papers here and Yu'er is on his way to pick you up. This stroke sure gave us a scare young lady." He chides, grinning as she blushes and swats his hand.

"Oh you!" Mrs. Luo sighs. "I'm sorry I scared you boys, but I'm so thankful for your weekly visits. I couldn't reach the phone and, I was pretty scared myself." She admits, suddenly looking fragile. "Anyway, thankfully, you boys happened to stop by at the right time and it was mild. I'm fine now. So, how are things going?" She asks excitedly, but frowns at Gu Wei's sigh.

"After our surrogate miscarried the first pregnancy, she said she can't do it again." Gu Wei says, giving a sad smile. "She felt responsible somehow. Silly. So, we each still have several embryos stored. I'm glad we found a donor with enough eggs for us both to use. Our children will have the same Mother. So, biologically, they'll be real siblings." He can't hide his smile, just thinking about the children they could have. "We just need to find a new surrogate who doesn't mind carrying children for a gay couple." A knock on the door has them both turning sad eyes that way.

"Not the greeting I was hoping for." Chen Yu says, his shoulder length hair pulled into a partial ponytail. He crosses the room and wraps an arm around Gu Wei's shoulders, kissing his cheek. He winks down at Mrs. Luo. "You ready to get sprung Mrs. L?"

"I'm definitely ready!" Mrs. Luo smiles, swinging her legs over the side of the bed. "I could've taken a cab home A'Yu." She shakes her head, smiling as he reaches out to offer her his arm.

"Nonsense. In fact, are you sure you don't want to spend a few days with us?" Chen Yu asks, looking at her with genuine concern in his eyes. "The nursery isn't being used, yet." He winks and Gu Wei sighs, loving how optimistic his husband is.

"Oh I'm sure, but thank you both." Mrs. Luo says smiling and patting his cheek. "I've got a therapist or something coming out three days a week for physical therapy. I'll be just fine. Plus, you got me this fancy necklace." She winks, gently stroking a medical alert button around her neck. "I really appreciate you boys taking such good care of this old woman."

"We have to, you're family Mrs. L." Chen Yu says, giving her a squeeze and kissing her forehead. "Besides, once we finally have a baby, they'll need their Granny L." He winks and watches tears spring to her eyes as she covers her mouth. "You, are very important to us."

"We love you." Gu Wei adds, the three of them standing in a group hug. "Anyway, you're free to go." He wipes at his own eyes and smiles at her, then turns to Chen Yu. "I'll be off in a couple hours lao gong." He kisses Chen Yu's cheek and exits the room, sighing just outside the door. He's not as confident about finding a new surrogate. They had been turned down by so many.

"Dr. Gu?" Xinger asks, watching him from the nearby nurses station. "Everything okay?"

"Yeah, everything's going to be just fine. Thank you Xinger." Gu Wei heads off down the hall to finish his rounds.
