Callie's POV
"Callie" I was poked.
"Callie" I was poked again but ignoring.
"Callie" I don't think Josh realizes how annoying he is.
"Callie" And the poking continues.
"Cal—" As Josh was about to poke me again I grabbed his finger and bent it backwards. He yelped and jumped away from me. "Settle down there tiger!"
"How about you stop poking me so I can get homework done?" I smiled sweetly at him.
"Callie," Evan throws a worried glance my way, "It's only lunch block we haven't even made it through the whole day and you are worrying about homework?"
"He's right Callie," Jared pips in, "What's got you so worried?"
"I'm not worried!" I shoot back to him.
Garret scoffs, "Yea okay, like we believe that."
I groan. "Okay fine," I set down my pencil and tap the table with my non-existent nails. I have a bad habit of chewing them, filthy I know but I can't seem to stop. I look up at the boys sitting around me at the table, "I'm really nervous for try-outs," I confess.
They shake their heads. "Callie you got this in the bag!" Josh tells me.
"We have practiced all summer, and you're worried?" Evan gives me a slight shove.
"What if everyone hates me? OR WORSE?? What if the coach hates me?!" I rub my hands on my face.
The guys give me blank stares. "Callie. The varsity coach is Mr. Hills, you are his favorite student and he has had his eye on you for soccer since day one! You have nothing to sweat." Jared throws his arm over my shoulder.
"Actually," Garret speaks up, "She might have one issue." We all look around at everyone confused. "Maybe if she had some, you know, girl friends, it wouldn't be so bad." He smirks at me.
I narrow my eyes at him and kick him in the shin. He grunts in pain as he grabs for his leg. Not much I know but it's the best I can do with him being across the table.
"Well I'm sorry girls are such bitches." I cross my arms over my chest.
"Not all of them. Some can be really, really nice. Especially at night when they ar—" I cover Jared's mouth with my hand "And on that note," I say as I stand up, "I am going to class." As I was out of the Cafeteria I hear them bursting into fits of laughter. I just roll my eyes and head to my locker.

"Okay girls," Coach Hills yells, "Line up on the sideline." I run over to the sidelines and I stretch my quads in anticipation. "Today we will be doing simple drills. Just some things so I can see your skill level and how conditioned you are," He says to us as he paces back and fourth. "I will split you into groups by grade and you will do the drills for 10 minutes in those groups." He told us what grade went to what station. He blew his whistle and we were off. He has multiple assistant coaches at each station evaluating us as we go through them, which is really stressful. At some of the stations the girls were just gossiping to each other and talking the whole time. This did not make Hills happy. So I guess there's a good reason not to have girl friends.
Two and a half hours later I'm exhausted and dumping water on my face. All the other girls are once again gossiping and sitting in chatting circles while I'm alone. I mean it does feel kind of weird, but I don't mind it. I take off my nike cleats and slide my shin guards out of their sleeves. I throw them into my bag right away so I don't leave them at the field again, god that was embarrassing. I rolled down my socks praying I don't have any tan lines and put on my slides.
"Alright girls listen up," Coach Hills came over to us, "You will receive a message by mid-night tonight if you made it on the varsity team or JV. If you don't get a message, well, I think you can figure out by yourselves what that means. Okay you are dismissed." He gives us one final nod before heading to his office.
I start to walk towards Evan's car when I hear thudding coming from behind me. Just as I start to turn around my face comes in contact with Josh's chest and it feels like 90 other arms are being wrapped around me. That's when I realized that my five loser friends had just gotten out of try-outs too and decided to give me a big sweaty gross bear hug.
"Oh gosh get off you guys smell disgusting!" I gag as I try to find oxygen. They all laugh and pick up their bags.
"We should say the same to you sister," Evan laughs as he wraps his arms around my torso and starts walking while carrying me sideways.
"Evan put me down!" I start hitting his back.
He gets an evil grin. "As you wish," is all he says before dropping me on my face to the ground.
"Thank you so much," I say dryly to him as I dust myself off.
