The trio had just stopped climbing the unbearable floors of a building. Joel had sat on the floor to catch his breath but soon Ellie and Lara had forced him to stand up. They had finally entered a room that resembled a desk Ellie had set up cushions on the floor to sleep while Joel left pieces of glass lying on the floor.
The two adults had each been lying on their makeshift beds ready to fall asleep when Ellie called them out.
"What ?" Lara asked as Joel breathed a sigh for an answer.
"Did you know diarrhea is hereditary ?"
The two smugglers turned towards the girl with their eyebrows frowning.
"It's run in your jeans !"
Ellie laughed and Joel turned to hide hers while Lara did not bother, this joke certainly sucked but fatigue seemed to take over her maturity and quickly Joel's laughter reasoned in the room warming Lara's entire body.
"That is so goddamn stupid !" Joel laughed.
"It isn't that much!" Assured the Smith woman.
"Yes, and you laughed motherfucker !"
The man shook his head. "I didn't laugh."
"Yes you did." The teenager laughed.
"Jesus I'm losin' it."
Lara laughed again followed by Ellie and Joel until they finally calmed down and fell asleep for once almost fearlessly.
Lara opened her eyes because of a cold metal she felt against her head, she raised her hands reluctantly when she found herself facing a gun pointed at her head, she felt her heart beating in her chest and the adrenaline in her veins ready to make her do anything to protect Joel and Ellie.
"Joel !" Ellie called. "Joel !"
The man opened his eyes when he encountered the threat a little boy was carrying against him as he held his gun tightly Lara wonders how it is possible that a child of such a small age would do this.
"Eyes on me !" Orders the older boy. "Eyes on me !"
Joel looks at the young man hard to gut him just like Lara who is no longer threatening, only Ellie and Joel are; But one wrong move and she would see them die too.
"You don't have to worry about what to say. We don't wanna hurt you we wanna help you !"
The Smith woman turned her gaze on the man and began to laugh sarcastically but it was held back as a precaution: "Really? You have guns pointing at us !"
"I... I promise hum... I don't know what the next step is with something like this... But if I lower my gun we didn't hurt you so you don't hurt us rigth ?"
