Chapter 14: A reward long awaited

S: Hi guys, welcome back and yes the author managed to survive through tons of annoying assignments, works and finally got some time to update this story.

S: This chapter was originally done in January however I am not very satisfied with the content so this is one of the reasons that I took so long to update. But fear not, I already have planned for the next chapter (Actually I already planned out the following chapters but just couldn't find time to write it out- damm you annoying assignments and exams!)

Let's begin

(A week later)

It's been a week since the end of the writing exam and the beginning of the survival test. Over the past week, Naruto and his team was the second team that reached the tower. The team only used less than one day to reach the tower, which broke the fastest Konoha Genin team record. Their sensei- Kushina had come to congratulate them and told them they were the second team that reached the tower but nevertheless she was very proud of them.

Naruto and his teammates were curious about the identity of the first team that reached the tower but when they learnt about the team's identity; instead of being impressed by the first team's performance, all members of team 9 frowned. The first team that reached the tower before them was the Suna team.

Along their way to the tower, they saw several corpses that belonged to different teams, there were teams from Konoha, Rain, Sound, even Suna. Team 9 first thought there was an intense battle outside the stadium. The teams that hid around the stadium had ambushed some random Genin team for their scroll. However, there was something that couldn't add up- most of them were buried alive leaving some parts of their limbs exposed, some of the victims had their bones being crushed, some of them were suffocated to death but they were all slaughtered by the same item- sand.

Kushina had told them that she heard the Hokage mention that the Suna team had reached the tower before sunset and they had collected five heaven scrolls and seven earth scrolls which were more than enough to pass the test. She also heard that the academy teacher- Iruka who was the one that went to meet the team saw that the faces of the elder siblings in the Suna team were deathly white, like they were terrified of something but the youngest one just quietly handed him the additional scroll with a creepy smile.

Kushina told them to be careful before she Shunshin away as it was the exams rule that the participants couldn't leave the exam area until the second part of the exam had finished. Thus, the team could only train and explore the tower while they waited for the remaining team to arrive.

One of the mentionable was that Tayuya who was supposed to be their enemy did actually become friends with Yakumo. It was during their second day in the tower, Tayuya who had been foul-mouthed along the way to the tower did actually quiet down a bit and chatted with Yakumo, when Naruto asked Yakumo about Tayuya's condition. Yakumo replied that they had found the same hobby and she wouldn't tell Naruto about it but during his talk with Yakumo, Tayuya for unknown reason would blush like a red tomato while having her eyes staring at his pants, which Naruto found strange.

On the fifth day, Yakumo told her teammates that Tayuya had left the stadium since it was a survival exam, the team saw no point to continue to hold Tayuya as prisoner and therefore set her free. Tayuya had mentioned something about being careful when facing Tobuka, Yakumo had also found it strange that when Tayuya spoke about that name, her voice was from quiet to louder. It was then the team found out that Tobuka was Kabuto, their suspicion toward that strange Genin was correct.
