Nathaniel was given a rest, but then they took him to the underground storage of Corps anyway.
"Until all the circumstances are clarified," as Gervase defined it. At least I was allowed to go with him. Nathaniel himself did not object and did not resist. I don't know what was driving him, because I remembered with what despair he had recently declared that he would no longer allow himself to be locked up. Nothing had changed in his underground "apartment", as if she had been waiting for his return all this time. Someone even managed to brush off the dust while we were driving.
"Home, sweet home," Nathaniel muttered as he walked inside.
"It's a temporary measure," Gervase assured him. "We need to sort out the materials that Kiaran-from-the-future brought with him."
"And they didn't disappear?" Nathaniel asked without turning around.
He stood in the middle of the small living room, looking around the room.
"No," Gervase replied laconically, preparing to leave. He looked at me questioningly, silently asking if I was going with him.
"Let me stay," I asked quietly, not really understanding why I was asking to be locked in the basement with Nathaniel. Just like last time, I couldn't leave.
Gervase just nodded and opened the door. I hurriedly touched his shoulder, forcing him to linger.
"I'm sorry. For all my suspicions. And accusations."
He turned around, looked over his shoulder. His gaze seemed sad and tired. He nodded again silently, giving me his forgiveness, and disappeared through the door. The lock clicked softly, cutting off my escape route. I turned to Nathaniel. He had already pulled off his leaky, blood-stained shirt, threw it on the floor and was now examining the body decorated with bruises and bruises in a small mirror hanging on the wall.
"Is everything all right?" I asked anxiously.
"It takes a long time to heal," bigger the damage, the more time it takes to recover, and the body first of all restores what is more important.
That is, internal organs. An explosive bullet wound, additional weight from above when falling and another bullet is a lot, but I'll be like new soon.
"I'll take your word for it," I muttered doubtfully, coming closer and barely restraining myself from touching the blue-black side, which was getting better before my eyes. "And how did you know that you would survive all this?"
He shrugged indifferently, meeting my gaze in the reflection.
"Penn explored the limits of our capabilities to know for sure what we are capable of."
"Do you mean to say that you have already jumped from the roof of a seven-story building?"
"Jumping is a big word. He fell, and not quite of his own free will. And not only that. It's a good thing that some stray bullet didn't shoot off my finger or hand entirely," He smiled wryly. "It's not very pleasant to regrow a limb. And it hurts, and it looks disgusting. And it takes several days."
I shuddered. It was another little revelation about what was happening in the lab with him and Eva. And thinking about it made me feel sick, so I drove them away.
"Okay, I'm going to take a shower, and you go home,"Nathaniel ordered. Apparently, he didn't realize that I couldn't get out anymore. «I don't think any decisions will be made in the next few hours, and you need to rest and sleep."
"The day has just begun."
"But your night was painfully short. And the morning is too busy. I think Sirius will understand."
