Baggy brown denim jacket hanging heavily over her shoulders, Lisa clutched her phone tightly in her hands as she swiftly made her way towards the airport terminal exit. Despite her exhaustion from all the business trips she'd been taking lately - with all the campaigns and shoots for her work - the thought of finally being able to see her girlfriend's beaming smile made her feel like she was walking on clouds.
She pulled out her phone to finally check her messages, now off flight mode.
"so excited to see you again tonight! trying to stay up for you but i am so sleepy, please come home soon ❤️" read the top notification from her girlfriend, and Lisa's face lit up.
"so sorry to be so late," Lisa smiled as her thumbs typed out a swift apology, "you really don't have to stay up for me, you'll see me as soon as you wake up baby".
Three dots answered back in an eager 5 seconds. "it's okayyyy, i'm having some of your ginseng in bed so i can stay up. hope u don't mind me stealing a sip 😈"
Still walking rapidly, Lisa's thumbs answered quickly, before switching the phone off to continue hurrying home. "i would be mad but since i miss you so much, i'll forgive u 😆 see you soon baby"
Desperate to find a taxi and see Chaeyoung again, her feet continued to carry her towards the exit without a chance to look around, the 1am darkness outside only pushing her faster. The day not being extraordinarily special, she wasn't particularly keen on staying at the airport any longer (plus, if she didn't keep walking, she knew her eyelids would begin to droop in seconds TTOTT).
But caught up in her busy work life, little did she realise that, in fact it was a very special day: her 26th birthday. And, she wouldn't be having to head home in a rush. For her girlfriend with the beaming smile, Chaeyoung, was already waiting there at the exit for her, with the most beautiful bunch of yellow roses. And Lisa's feet stopped in their tracks at the sight.
"...Chaeyoung!?" she managed to get out with much struggle, speechless.
"Hiii baby!!" Chaeyoung just smiled, humoured at the sight of her girlfriend standing in the middle of the terminal in pure shock, "did I surprise you?"
"I- wh- yes?!?!" Lisa laughed as she spluttered dumbfounded, "but I thought you told me you were in bed!"
"You thought!!" Chaeyoung laughed happily, pointing a teasing finger at the black-haired girl, "are you gonna come over here, or are you gonna just continue standing there?"
Finally breaking out of her frozen state, Lisa rushed over to Chaeyoung, where she was engulfed in a tight, warm and comforting embrace. "I missed your hugs," she sighed contentedly as she pulled away. Her tiredness was long gone.
"I missed you!!" Chaeyoung looked into Lisa's chocolate eyes in adoration, "how was the trip?"
"It was alright, but today was pretty exhausting since I was in the air basically the whole time," Lisa recounted, "not to mention how boring it was."
At these words, Lisa saw the smile drop from her girlfriend's mouth and transform into an instant "O".
"Oh no! But today was supposed to be all about you!!!" Chaeyoung exclaimed in worry (and almost hurt).
"...huh?" Lisa cocked her head in confusion, "what do you mean?"
"Lisa, it's your birthday baby!!" Chaeyoung exclaimed in confusion, "don't you know?"
In all her hurry, Lisa had completely forgotten, and Chaeyoung could read this on her face.
"Oh baby, how much did they work you?" she begun caressing her girlfriend's face in worry, "you're always so excited about your birthday! Are you okay?"
"Oh no no no, I'm okay!! It's mostly just all the time differences," Lisa hurried to reassure her concerned girlfriend, "they've been messing with me a bit."
"Okay," Chaeyoung replied anxiously, though Lisa was unsure if the blonde believed her, "well, I know it's nothing compared to being able to spend time together, but I got you these flowers for your birthday. I hope you like them."
Lisa graciously took the bunch of beautiful roses in her hands, inhaling their intoxicatingly sweet scent that instantly made her smile. "They're so pretty, thank you, Rosie."
"Well it's the least I could do to stand here and give them to you," her girlfriend smiled lovingly, "and even though it's technically not your birthday anymore, I still want to make you feel extra special."
Lisa tried to protest, opening her mouth to tell her girlfriend how she already did that every day, but she was cut off by a gentle kiss.
"Don't you dare protest, Lisa, I've missed you so much, after all," Chaeyoung chuckled as she pressed a soft shushing finger to Lisa's lips, "so you don't have to rush, you don't have to take a taxi, just let me take you home, birthday girl."
And Lisa gratefully obliged.
