In the car, my mom was trying to be nonchalant while she was gripping the steering wheel tightly. She didn't like the fact that I wanted to play soccer. Yes, I know she's just being a concerned mother, but it kind if offended me that she thought I was too weak. It's October 2nd, a month after school started, and after long consideration and begging my mom, she scheduled a doctors appointment. The doctor would run all of her fancy tests and evaluate me to see if I'm in any condition for physical activities. Since I had cancer, I had to get permission from my doctor and my mom before trying out for the team. I thought that was buullloneyy! But it wasn't up to me so off to the doctors we went.

"So you really want to play soccer?" Serena asked me. She was never the kind of girl that enjoyed getting muddy and 'gross' so the fact that I was interested in a messy contact sport boggled her mind.

"Yes Serena. Unlike you, I'd love to join this sport and make friends instead of...filing my nails!" I said as I looked over and seen her doing exactly that.

"Shut up," she said in a grouchy tone. I put my hands up as if to surrender and we both chuckled. Ever since school started, it seeme to me like Serena and I were more bonded as sisters and it brought our minds off of my limited time left. I liked it.

"We're here," my mom said. She found a nice parking spot due to our handicap car sign, and headed towards the building.

"Go fish."

I hastily grabbed another card from the deck and turned to Mom.

"Do you have any queens?"I asked. Man! I stink at this game. I gave her my queen and she smiled in triumph, laying her queen match down on my food tray. To pass our time, Serena, mom, and I were playing go fish. All crowded around the hospital bed, Mom was about to ask Serena a question when the doctor came in with test results.

"Alright, Ms. Jefferson, I have your daughters X-rays and scans, and by the looks of it the cancer hasn't gone away but it hasn't grown any more since your last visit."

"...is that a good thing Dr. Miller?" My mom says anxiously. I can't tell what answer she wants the doctor to say because she doesn't really want me to join sports. But SHE agreed reluctantly so all I needed was the doctors ok.

"Well, I've talked to my colleagues and they've all said that-with caution!-she can, in fact participate in the sport of her choice," the doctor answered.

YYYIIIIPPPPPEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! I practically jumped out of the bed with excitement, causing my heart minister to go ballistic.

"Careful!" Dr. Miller said, but I could barely hear her over mine and Serena screeches of glee. I can play soccer!!!!! I can fit in!!!! I can socialize outside of school!!!!

"Calm down, Noelle. And Serena don't encourage her. Both of you get ready and we'll head home," mom said with I sigh. I'll take that as she wanted the doctor to say the other answer. I smile at her cheerfully to try and brighten her mood and it worked. Then, we all walked out the hospital doors with smiles on our faces.
