"How do I look, Badi Maa?" Nandini asked while returning around in her black sleeveless evening dress made of satin fabric. Her straight hair hid her exposed back perfectly. While her light makeup highlighted her natural bright skin tone.
"Oh, you look beautiful, Nandini." Sandhya smiled and kissed her niece's forehead.
"Mumma, don't lie." Aryaman continued while glaring at Nandini, "You look like a witch in this black dress." And he scrunched up his nose in disgust.
"I don't give a penny about your opinion. So, rot in hell, you Satan." Nandini have him an equally sarcastic comeback.
"You, ungrateful cat-" but he was cut off by his own mother.
"Enough, Arya." Don't talk to her so rudely. You will be crying your eyes out when she will leave after her marriage just like you cried on Mukti's wedding." Now Aryaman couldn't deny that. He had never imagined he'd cry on his sister's wedding but he ended up crying like a baby. And he had no doubt this will happen on Nandini's wedding as well. Because let's admit, he loved his sisters no matter how annoying they were.
"Badi Maa, I haven't agreed to the proposal yet." Nandini grumbled.
"But your excitement says otherwise." Sandhya grinned.
"I am excited for the party, not for him." She folded her arms on her chest, clutching her purse in one hand.
"If you say so." Sandhya smirked.
The very moment, a car honked outside.
"That must be Manik. Bye, Badi Maa." Nandini hugged her aunt. "Bye, idiot." She waved at Aryaman.
"Go to hell, you witch." He yelled as she ran out of the mansion.
A very smiling Nandini exited the main gate to meet an equally excited Manik waiting for her. Without any words being exchanged between them, he opened the passenger's seat for for her.
"No driver today?" She asked on seeing no driver in sight.
"Nope." He smiled. It would be the first time she saw him smile so genuinely. Otherwise, a keen beholder would easily realise he was feigning the friendly warmth.
Nandini sat inside the car and Manik shut the door after her. He sat on the driver's seat and sped off to the party's venue.
While two pairs of eyes looked at the moving black car till the time it didn't fade away in the blackness of the moonless night.
"I am afraid, Vasudev." Kishore said to his brother.
"They will never know the truth. No one will." Vasudev reassured him.
"But looking at him getting closer to my daughter, I feel scared." A tear escaped his eye.
"Then ask Nandini to refuse the proposal." He suggested.
"I don't want to do that either. They look so happy together."
"Then what will you do, Kishore?" Vasudev turned to look at him.
"Just hope that the truth never unveils itself." He wiped his tears and walked away.

"Your business client's wife is a snobby nose." Nandini told him when they were returning from the party.
"I don't like her either. She reminds me of pigs." He added.
"Why pigs?" She asked.
"I don't know." He shrugged.
"But the food was amazing." She said with satisfaction.
"Yeah." He couldn't agree more. He had never tasted such a delicious Chinese cuisine before.
Soon, the car halted in front of the Kashyap Mansion.
"Good Night, Manik." Nandini waved him a bye before removing the seatbelt. She was about to open the door when Manik began, "Nandini, can I kiss you?"
Nandini went still as she couldn't believe what she just heard. She turned to look at him.
"Why would you say that?" She asked.
"Because I feel like kissing you." He said with a cute and innocent smile playing on his inviting lips.
Nandini gulped in nervousness, before uttering, "No."
She quickly moved out of the car and entered the mansion as soon as the guards opened the main gate for her.
But then she turned around and looked at him one last time before entering the mansion.
Manik just smiled and drove away.

"Dad, why are you still awake?" Nandini stopped in her tracks seeing her father sitting on the swing placed in the lawn. She entered the lawn and sat beside him.
"I was waiting for you." He replied as his daughter put her head on his shoulder.
"I thought you are missing Mom." Nandini mumbled.
"Oh, I miss her every second of my life." He patted her head.
"Me too." She sighed.
"What about Manik? Do you like him?" He asked hesitantly.
"I think, yes. He is a nice guy." She turned to look at him with a smile.
"Nicer than me?" He asked teasingly.
"Nope." Nandini shook her head.
"So, you'll marry him?" He questioned.
"I am not sure yet. I need some more time."
"As you wish. But don't love him more than me." He said emotionally.
"Dad, I love you more than anyone." And she kissed his cheek.
"Oh, my baby." And he hugged his daughter tightly. His eyes were glistening with tears. "Now go to your room. It's too late." He ended the hug.
"You too sleep, okay?"
"Okay." He nodded with a smile.
Nandini went upstairs and entered her bedroom. She quickly changed into her night clothes and put that black dress back in the closet.
As soon as her head hit the pillow, her mind drifted back to the time she spent with Manik, so far. His pretense of a happy and friendly person, then his traumatic childhood, his innocent-infectious smile; in short, his everything fascinates her.
Her reverie broke when she heard the ping sound of her phone. She picked it up to see a message from Manik.
He sent her a good night with a heart emoji. Her lips formed into a smile while replying his message with a smiley emoji.
She put back her phone on the bed side table and sleep consumed her.
