Chapter 12: To Victory or Death

Albedo and the others were standing on the battlefield, uncertain of what to do. They did not wish to rush into battle without reinforcements, as they were uncertain of how strong the next wave of Goblins would be. After all, the Goblins were accompanied by these mysterious Kobolds, and they were also bringing all their siege weapons. It was likely that they were facing the main force, and their own backup was yet to be seen. "We could really do with that small army right about now..." Albedo said. Reina was still being healed by Marin, meaning both of them were distracted. Their forces were beginning to tire...Albedo and Sammy were the only two who seemed relatively prepared for the next wave. "I'm not waiting for them to come to us. Are you with me, Albedo?" Sammy asked, "Sure...what do you plan to do, though?" Albedo answered, uncertain of Sammy's plan. Sammy offered Albedo her hand and she took it delicately. "Are you massaging me?" Sammy asked, "Uh...no?" Albedo answered, "Then you might wanna hold on tighter than that." Sammy said, "Why?" Albedo asked. Without warning, Sammy threw her glaive like a spear through the air! The force at which the glaive flew pulled them off the ground, sending them flying over the forest like a missile! On the way, emerald wings sprouted from Sammy's back. The emerald wings were held together by black demonic tendrils, flapping with force as they flew up into the sky! Albedo screamed out in terror, holding on for dear life! "You know if you keep freaking out I'm gonna drop you!" Sammy exclaimed. Her comment only worried Albedo further, causing her to cry out in fear! 

All of the sudden, Sammy swooped down, dive-bombing toward the ground at breakneck speed! She pulled the chain of her glaive up, catching it as it soared into her hands. "Stab that one." She said, throwing Albedo without any further warning! Albedo cried out in terror as she held her sword out! She was tossed right into a Kobold, stabbing him in the skull! To her surprise, she landed perfectly on her feet. She looked down at herself, realizing she suffered no injuries from the fall. "You should have seen the look on your face! Priceless..." Sammy said, landing beside her. They were standing beside a siege weapon, guarded by Kobolds and Goblins alike. "What's the plan?" Albedo asked, "Don't die!" Sammy vaguely answered, rushing towards the siege weapon! It looked like a ballista, though it was angled diagonally. It was gargantuan, a little larger than a catapult. Large thick ropes served as the drawstring for its ballista-like design, If they were cut, the weapon would no longer function. Before they could reach it, however, they had to cut through more Goblins. And this time their Kobold allies were fighting with them. Sammy dove into the air, her wings spreading out dramatically! The emeralds in her wings split into countless shards, and the black tendrils holding them together flung them at the Goblins and their allies! The Goblins and Kobolds hid behind shields, blocking the shards as best as they could. Their shields were wood, however, and the shards were unyielding. They shredded their shields away, paving the way for a follow-up attack! "Albedo! Catch!" Sammy exclaimed, tossing her glaive towards her! Albedo caught the glaive as she suggested, uncertain of why she was doing so. 

Sammy flung the chain with force, sending Albedo flying in an arc toward a trio of Goblins! "Woah!" She exclaimed, swinging out at them! She decapitated the trio, letting go of the glaive as she did so. She rolled across the ground, landing right in front of a Kobold! It let out a bellowing roar, swinging down at her! Before he could reach her, Sammy pulled the glaive back into her hands and tossed it at his! It sliced his forearms right off, causing his blow to miss. He let out a cry of terror and pain before Sammy swung the glaive back up into his throat! She pulled back on the chain, taking him with it! She caught him by the skull and dragged the glaive's blade across his neck to dislodge it. She was on the ground now, as she no longer had wings. Though Albedo had a feeling she could call them back any time. The black tendrils that held the emeralds together had retracted into her body, leaving only room to assume. Sammy dropped the Kobold's body to the ground and looked toward Albedo. "Behind you, sunshine!" She exclaimed. Albedo swiftly turned around, splitting an incoming Goblin in two. There were only two Kobolds remaining, both guarding the siege weapon. Sammy stepped up beside Albedo, putting a hand on her shoulder. "So...you thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?" She asked, "You've been thinking this whole time?" Albedo asked in response, "I always have a plan. I just like surprising people, y'know?" Sammy answered, "As lovely as that is, may I ask why these Kobolds are just standing there staring at us like idiots?" Albedo asked.
