I gripped my bow and kept it aimed at the king's skull. The speech was almost over. As soon as he dismissed everyone, I would release the arrow. This was the moment. This was worth everything. I sacrificed sleep, energy, a whole year of my life for this moment. I focused and waited. This aim had to be perfect. Perfectly timed, perfectly balanced.
"That will be all. Thank you all for attending today's speech. Everyone is dismissed." Nightmare's low, growl-like voice rang through the microphone. The crowd shuffled around and villagers started to make their way back to the village.
As I began to release the arrow, a cold object grazed my neck. My arms were grabbed, causing the bow to point at the ground. The arrow careered and pierced the dirt below. I felt my feet slip. I was pretty far up in a tree, so the fall was gonna hurt like hell- my bow vanished. As did whoever grabbed my arms. I was alone as I fell, my clothes being ripped, my skin being cut. Tears stung at my eyes. Not from the pain, but from the failed mission. This was my one goal. I planned everything out. Everything was perfect. Whoever attacked me was gonna pay if I found out who they were.
The impact of my body hitting the hard ground made a shrill cry escape my dry throat. I landed on my left arm, a painful cracking sound was heard as I hit the ground with a loud thump. I tried moving my body, trying to push myself up off my broken arm. My whole body felt so heavy and sore. My vision clouded with tears as a pounding headache set in. I just wanted to pass out at this point. My vision left completely, but I heard two unfamiliar voices before I lost consciousness.
"Are they dead? Check their pulse."
"Nope! Would've been better for the thing if the impact had killed them. Nightmare's gonna have fun dealing with this one."
Nightmare's POV
I made my way to the limp human lying on the ground. Their h/c hair was covering their face. I bent down to their injured body and moved their hair from their face. It was a human. Tears stained their s/c cheeks. They had a deep cut across their nose and one on their cheek. A small twig was sticking out of their right thigh, blood threatening to spill if it was removed. I pulled up their (Insert clothing of choice) to look at their arm. Their left arm was visibly broken. I took a hold of their left arm, gently turning their body over so they weren't laying on their broken arm.A small, soft whimper came from them. I used my magic to speed up the healing processes of their arm, not healing it completely. It would be sore, and would hurt for sure. I gently placed my arms under their body and lifted them, holding them bridal style. Their head was limply thrown back and their limbs dangled as I stood up.
"Boys, prepare a room for them in the East tower." I ordered. Horror tilted his head. "The medical wing? Why not send them straight to the torture chamber?" He inquired, looking at the human in my arms. I glanced down at them. Their nose had begun to bleed, a thick red liquid running down the side of their s/c face. "No one likes playing with broken toys, now do they, Horror?" I grinned, my tone laced with venom. Horror shook his head and chuckled to himself. Placing the human's head on my chest, I turned to my men. "I want this human looking healthy before I torture them. Make sense?" I shifted my gaze to Cross. "Yes, your highness." Cross nodded. I handed the small human over to him. "They will be placed under great care, Your majesty." Cross took the human and held them bridal style, but he seemed agitated at having to touch them, scowling at their face. They were an attractive young human, but the dark bags under their eyes, their raw hands (most likely from overuse of magic) , bruised arms and tear stained cheeks said they had seen better days. "I expect only the best from you Cross, nothing less. Understood?" I sternly said. Cross nodded, keeping a neutral face.
After returning to the castle, my men headed to the east tower. I had teleported to my study and settled in my swivel chair. I snapped and a blue flame erupted in the fireplace. I crossed my legs and folded my gloved hands in my lap. That human...Something intrigued me about them. Their aura. Their emotions. They didn't come in normal waves like most emotions did. They were sharp and staggered. These auras were rare, and were drug-like to both me and my brother. Addictive, if you will. I let out an agitated growl. I had no knowledge of their intent. Why were they in that tree? Did they actually plan to kill me? How did they lace those arrows with positive magic and how did they even know-
A soft but firm knock interrupted my thoughts. I stood up and walked to my door. I opened it. Killer was standing there. I started to scold him, I had put the Do Not Disturb sign on my door before I had entered. "This better be important, because I-"
"The human won't stop personally attacking Horror and he's having a breakdown." Killer tried holding back a laugh.
"What..?"
"THAT'S WHY YOUR FATHERLESS YOU BALD CRACKHEAD!" A shrill voice screamed, echoing down the hallway. I saw the human being restrained by Cross, thrashing around as he carried them. Dust was comforting a clearly upset Horror. Killer began to giggle. "You're so petty." I murmured. Killer grinned "Hah, Heck yeah I'm pretty." I shoved him out of the way. "I said petty, you idiot."
The human stopped thrashing as I approached them. I narrowed my eyes on them. "My acquaintance here, Horror, doesn't take too kindly to insults, So please shut your mouth and let my men here take care of you as I instructed." I firmly said. "I don't need help from you! You're all a bunch of pricks!" They screamed. In a flash, I wrapped my hand around their throat and teleported them against the wall, pinning them there harshly. "You will not speak to me or my subjects in such a tone, you little ungrateful brat. They are trying to help you. Be grateful I haven't killed you yet." I growled, my tongue laced with venom.
The negative emotions started to shoot off them, the entrancing aura filling my senses. The human gave me a death glare, their e/c eyes piercing me. They were a beautiful shad of e/c. Their frame was small/large but good. They were like a porcelain doll.
Tears started to spill from their large glassy eyes. "How...How am I ungrateful? I've had to fight for everything in my life..I get beaten for no reason.. No one wants to hire a human, so I've had to resort to petty theft to feed myself and smaller, weaker villagers. You're a spoiled king who hasn't worked a day in your life." They spat at me, their tone sharp. I recoiled at their words. "You don't know what it's like to be an outcast, just because of the way you were born, my king." They said the last part in a mocking tone. I chuckled. "What did you say your name was, my dear?"I titled my head, mocking them back. "It's none of your business." They snapped. I tightened my grip on their neck. "Your king asked a question, answer it." I snarled.
"My.." They sighed. "My name is Y/N.." They mumbled. I let their neck go and they fell to the floor, landing on their bottom.
A/N: The second chapter is halfway finished, so I'll post it as soon as I get it finished :D
