March
I couldn't contain my excitement so much that I was singing at the top of my lungs and dancing the whole way to the school. Luckily, it was dark enough that not many people could see and judge me, but I honestly didn't care. I was on my way to meet the beautiful Adrianna and go on our very first date.
I felt awful that I had to miss her game because I helped out my mom at her work, but she kept insisting that it was fine. I wanted this date to go perfectly; I wanted to make it up that I couldn't be there to cheer her on. If anything, the cheer girls were more upset that I couldn't make it, but they'll get over it, they've bailed on many games.
I pulled my car into the parking lot and slowly drove through, making sure that the parking lot was, in fact, empty. As I rolled closer to the front door, I noticed a creepy figure standing in the shadows. I slowed down and tried to analyze the character as much as I could, but thankfully before I approached them, I finally realized who it was.
"Dalton?" I questioned as I rolled down the window. His face jerked upwards at me quickly.
"What's up, Nico?" He asked calmly.
"Not much, um, but what are you still doing here?" I asked nervously. I'm not going to lie, the whole hood up sitting in the shadows pulling at weeds is kind of freaking me out.
"Waiting for my ride." He answered calmly, still pulling at the weeds.
"Do you want me to give you a ride?" I offered as nicely as I could.
I was still a little bit on edge, but I also felt terrible for the kid. He looked bored out of his mind as he slowly lifted himself. I desperately wanted him to say no for the ride; I knew Adrianna was going to be expecting me on the hill any moment now, I was just being nice.
"No that's okay, I think I'm just going to walk." He said with sadness in his voice. I cheered a little bit inside my head, knowing that I didn't have to back-track and cut our date short, but I also worried for him.
"Are you sure?" I asked, still trying to be helpful but hoping he says no.
"No, it's okay. My ride will see me walking and get me from there. Plus, I'm bored here. Thanks, though." He said nicely as he started to walk off towards the road.
I watched until he walked out of view. I felt so bad knowing he was going to be walking home in the dark. But just as my moral compass was about to tell me to go offer again to pick him up, an angel walked out the front of the school.
My attention was instantly drawn towards her flowing dark hair as she turned and gave me the sweetest smile. Without hesitation, she started walking toward the hill. I quickly found a spot, putting my car in park, grabbing the picnic basket and blanket, before following her towards the hill.
She beat me and was already sitting, but I laid out the blanket and motioned for her to join me. A smile crossed her face, and without hesitation, she got up and rested on the blanket I laid out.
Before I opened up the picnic basket, I climbed onto the sheet, moving closer to her until she was close enough for me to pull her in for a much-needed kiss. I know how she felt about keeping this relationship a secret for now, but man, do I miss kissing her.
"How was the game?" I was the one to break the silence as I started unpacking the picnic basket. "We won, didn't we?"
"Yep, we won by twelve points." She bragged. I opened up the wine bottle I stole from my mom and began to pour her a glass.
"Wow, twelve points! That's crazy. And they're usually hard to beat." I commented back as I poured myself a wine glass.
"Usually, but we've kind of been on fire lately, so we're pretty unstoppable." She continued to brag. I lifted my glass as we cheered to tonight's victory.
