GROANING, ROSE PUSHED HERSELF OFF HER BED AND WALKED INTO HER CLOSET. She chose a brown flare sleeved mesh floral dress that reached just above her knees. Moving to her dresser, she applied a smoky-eyed yet simple makeup and put on her trademark hoop earrings, along with several other pieces of jewelry. She already had her trusty boots on, so she was ready to go.
It was 5pm and Rose had been stuck on writing songs for her new label. Her mind just wouldn't cooperate and that frustrated her a lot. Deciding to freshen up for a bit, she crashed a party she'd heard of. By the time she arrived, the house was already packed, full of sweaty people moving their bodies to the beat of whatever song was playing. Colourful flashing lights was just her scene, so she had no problem blending into the crowd right away.
Grabbing a drink, Rose went out to the backyard and layed on the grass. Looking at the night sky void of stars, she heard footsteps getting closer, "such a shame, isn't it? So pretty yet so empty."
not looking away, Rose responded, "sometimes that's how i feel, just an empty shell pleasing to the eye. I wonder what people think of me. Do they think i'm living my best life? or do they see me and think, God she must be lonely acting like that all the time."
The other person hummed, "I think they couldn't care less about how you're living your life. They only care about the booze and their own image." she laid next to Rose, finally introducing herself, "I'm Dorcas, by the way, Dorcas Meadowes."
"Roseanne, or Rose, or whatever."
"I know who you are. everyone knows who you are—Roseanne Greengrass, LA's it girl, the life of the party—but clearly there's more than what meets the eye, isn't there? I mean, it's not everyday you see a girl like you laying outside alone instead of stirring up chaos inside. But don't worry, I don't judge," Dorcas paused. "So, what brought you here today?"
Rose didn't know why she felt compelled to tell Dorcas the truth. She never opened up to strangers before, but something about the girl beside her made her feel safe. Like she would actually listen and understand. Moving her head, words seemed to spill out of her mouth before she could stop them, "I just signed with a record label, The Phoenix, do you know about them?"
"Do I know about them? Are you crazy? Of course I do! Everyone does! It's such an honor to be signed under them. It's actually one of my main goals," Dorcas practically shouted in her face.
Laughing a little, Rose continued, "Anyways, one of their producers, Minerva Mcgonagall, gave me an assignment. Told me to write a couple of decent songs so we could start recording. And I thought, okay, yeah, that should be easy. But guess what? It's been a month and a half and i haven't come up with anything! It's like the universe is against me or something. So after yet another unsuccessful writing session, I decided to freshen up"
