JAMES AND SIRIUS WERE ROLLING ON THE FLOOR TRYING TO KILL EACH OTHER. Sirius was kicking and screaming, flailing his arms around when James gave a harsh tug of his hair. His instincts responded immediately, punching James' shoulder. The latter paid no mind to the sting, suffocating Sirius harder. When he felt the man beneath him go limp, he began to get up, only to be knocked back down.
"HA! Gotcha!" Sirius laughed hysterically. It died down not a moment later when James stood, running to the kitchen. Sirius raced after him, not wanting to lose.
Slightly out of breath, the brothers leaned on the countertop for a minute, before fighting to get the cookie jar. "Lily!" Sirius shouted, successfully distracting James for a second. Grinning in triumph, he began to open the lid, only to see it empty.
"WHERE'S MY COOKIE?" His eyes widened in horror, letting out a shriek that could rival Walburga's. James, now finally noticing he was tricked, narrowed his eyes in suspicion. Making his way into the drawing room, he dragged a smug-looking Remus back.
"I ate it. I ate the last cookie and it tasted even better than the rest," Remus bragged. "MOONY! Why the fuck would you do that?" Sirius asked in anguish. Rolling his eyes Remus replied, "because you were taking too long fighting each other and the cookie looked too good to be ignored."
Frank and Mary were already in the garage, doing some early jams. Peter was running late that day, so Euphemia baked them her signature chocolate chip cookies, since she was visiting. However with the two rowdy boys there, the batch of cookies were gone in an instant.
Remus retreated to the drawing room, sitting on the loveseat in the corner nearest to the window. He'd been waiting all day to finally finish the book he was currently reading. His moment of peace was short-lived when the other two came crashing in doing God knows what.
"Okay! Let's start from the top," James suggested. They were practising their last song for the gig they're doing in a few days. Peter finally came after waiting for another half an hour. He brought the whole group with him as well. Lily Potter, Marlene McKinnon, and Alice Longbottom had just finished shopping when they bumped into Peter, heading to the same destination.
The intro of Rebel Rebel started and soon they were all lost in the music, the energy high. Most of the songs they covered were by David Bowie and Queen because of Sirius' obsession with them.
The girls clapped and cheered as the band—James and Sirius—bowed dramatically. "Thank you, thank you. That's it for today's show, and we're The Marauders!" Hopping off the stage James was immediately attacked by a fury of red hair that smelled of fresh lilies. "That was amazing! How you managed to blow my mind every time astounds me, James," the owner of the hair exclaimed.
He grinned, eyes brightening even more. "Bet you don't regret going out with me, huh?" That earned a smack to his chest, which he didn't mind. He hugged Lily tighter, smiling so big it hurt his face. But it didn't matter, he was happy.
Across the room, a pair of sad eyes with a shattered heart watched them.
"God did you see how many people were there? That was by far the biggest gig we've done," Sirius had been ranting ever since the show ended. That was 5 hours ago. Remus rolled his eyes smiling, his heart going warm, "we know, Pads, we were there. Did you notice or were you too high on the attention you were getting?"
After they finished, they went out to celebrate at a diner. It was now 1 am and the OG Marauders were camped out in James' drawing room.
"Awe Moony, you know my heart beats only for you," Sirius flattered his eyelashes. "Literally. Remember when Remus had to go home for 3 days because his mum was sick? He was so quiet those few days people were weirded out. He couldn't function at all!" James recalled.
Peter's booming laughter could be heard for miles. "Yeah! Wouldn't even eat. I had to bribe him with Moony's favourite chocolate to get him to eat a piece of toast." Remus, who had no knowledge of this happening, widened his eyes. Turning back to Sirius, he asked, "is this true?"
Sirius looked sheepish, mumbling, "well I was very much in love with you and you left me. It was like a piece of my soul being ripped away." Peter's laugh became louder, if that was even possible, and was joined by James' too. For the second time that night, Remus rolled his eyes at his boyfriend, "you're so dramatic. I was only gone for a few days! You had James and Peter to keep you company."
Said man grinned wolfishly, "that's why you love me, my deer Moony." He winked at Remus. "Get it? Because James is Pro–" Remus tackled him to the floor to shut him up. They cuddled for the rest of the night, feeling content having their best mates only a few feets away.
It was a few days later that Frank announced he's quitting the band. They'd just finished for the day and were now sitting in James' drawing room. "Alice is pregnant." Immediately, he received a lot of congratulations and wolf whistles. Frank spoke over the noise, "and I'm quitting the band." In a flash, they all looked at him in confusion. "What?" James was the first to utter a word.
"We want to focus on building a family and I can't do that if I stay," he explained. Looking around nervously he added, "I'll still come to your practice sessions and shows, of course, and I'd like to be your mentor, if that's possible."
"Of course it is! You'll always be a part of the band, Frank, even if you're no longer playing with us," Remus spoke next. "Right, guys?" James, Sirius, Peter, and Mary all nodded in agreement.
"I'll miss you so much, oh you're all grown up! They'll miss you too, of course, but none as much as I will," Sirius sobbed dramatically, leaning into Mary. "Oh come off it, Siri, I'll obviously miss him the most," she shoved Sirius aside, making her way to Frank, hugging him tightly.
Releasing him, she told him, "I'm so happy for you and Alice! I hope you know I'm fully expecting to be the Godmother." The soon-to-be father laughed, "We don't doubt it."
Peter was next. "I'll miss your daily sugar cookies," he frowned. Frank smiled, "I'll send some every now and then, Pete. Plus it's not like we'll not be seeing each other a lot. I'm quitting the band, not moving back to England." Peter nodded in satisfaction, his mood lifting. "Okay! Congrats again, I can't wait to see a mini you running around. I'll be the best uncle ever!"
They all took turns wishing Frank well, and soon the sun was setting and said man had to go home.
