I am late. I can't be late on my first day, goddamn it Wooyoung. You snoozed your first two alarms and this is the results. You're unbelievable. Now you missed your bus, you're running, you're sweating and you're going to arrive late and a mess to your first class at KQ Entertainment. You will certainly leave a shining impression on your teachers.

8:57 am.

Fuck. I'm close, but I can't make it in three minutes. I was so excited that yesterday I couldn't sleep at a decent time, it's not entirely my fault. Let's just hope someone else will be late too, so they won't be staring solely at me when I enter the classroom... is that too much to ask? That's the academy. I'm almost there. Run faster, Jung Wooyoung. And please don't fall on the stairs. And open the door the right way. And greet the teachers with respect. Here you are. The only late pupil. Catch your breath and go.

"Joesonghamnida, joesonghamnida", I bow in respect in front of the two teachers in the classroom. They give me a bit of a side eye, but it could have been worse. I go and sit down in the back, beside some other trainee who doesn't give a shit about my presence and keeps on listening to the two adults. Good. I want to meddle in and disappear. This is not the moment nor the way to stand out. The teachers go on talking about how the courses will be mainly divided into dancing, singing and choreography. This will be hard work, but all worth it. I fought all my life to be where I am now, I'm not going to give less than 100% of myself into this. I'm looking forward to everything KQ has to give me and teach me. This is my time.

The class is dismissed and only now I take a look at the other people in it. Some of them look like they don't know where they are, like lost puppies. Others have a spark of determination in their eyes, just like I do. Who knows who among us will be part of a group, who will make it and debut and who will have to return, defeated, to their homes. It's a hard game and I'm willing to play it with everything I have in me. Might as well make some friends along the way.

"Annyeonghaseyo, my name is Jung Wooyoung", I say with a big smile plastered on my face.

"Annyeonghaseyo, I'm Kim Hongjoong. Nice to meet you, Jung Wooyoung." He is smiling as well, a bright, friendly smile followed by his eyes. "Do you know anyone here?"

"No, no one. But now I know you." I giggle. Idiot. That's not funny.

"Right. I don't know anyone either, so we can be friends from now on."

"How old are you?"

"I'm 19".

"Then you're my hyung. I'm 18."

"Say, Wooyoung-ah, want to grab a bite? Or a coffee? I saw a vending machine outside."

"I didn't have any breakfast today, so I'll gladly say yes."

I like this hyung. He's cheerful, looks determined too, might be a great influence to me other than a friend to talk to. Not bad for a day started with me swearing at myself and at my alarm. I can't wait to see where this will head. But right now, I need to get something to eat: my stomach is rumbling and the noises ain't pretty. Might as well drink some coffee.

The teachers had already started speaking when that idiot slammed the door open. Such disrespect to arrive late, especially on the first day of lessons. It takes a special kind of stupid. Seemingly, it annoyed me more than it annoyed them, though. They sighed and they started talking again straight away when he sat down. He kinda ruined my mood, I easily snap with behaviours like that. But I want to focus on my career in the making and I have no time to waste.

I brush a hand in my hair as I usually do when I'm a bit uneasy. I don't know anyone, but I don't feel like talking right now. I lay my back on the wall and cross my arms on my chest and start looking at people in the class before me: most of them are trying to connect with someone, or already know another pupil or two from high school or around town. I moved around a lot in my life, following my parents, and the last years were no exceptions. I had to move here last month to join KQ. No way I could know anyone here. I'm used to the feeling, I'm always 'the new guy'. It doesn't bother me anymore, to be honest.

There's a small group at one end of the classroom blasting some music and starting dances to show off to one another. I slowly move from the wall and walk up to them... until someone hits me, hard, on the shoulder.

It's the late boy.

Figures.

"Oh, fu- I'm sorry, I wasn't looking, did I hurt you?" he rumbles.

"I'll live. Watch where you're going, next time."

"I said I'm sorry, man, chill."

"You're the one who got here late, right?" I don't know why I said that. I like to tease.

"Wha-"

"Yeah, I thought I recognised you. Then, you also watch when you wake up. Bye, man."

I walk away, leaving him in disbelief with his mouth open; I put on a smirk and I laugh internally, not even knowing why it pleases me so much to do what I just did.

Author's note: hey! Hope you enjoyed the first chapter. I usually write longer ones for my other fanfictions, but I don't know what you folks prefer here so I will test the waters and play around with the length of them a bit. Please, let me know if you prefer shorter or longer chapters.

Also, what did you think of the first lines of characterisation? How do you like the three presented characters so far?
