" Dad, do you think you and mom can watch her while I go back and see how Tyra is doing?" Rafe asked, torn between the obviously distressed child and her mother.
As if on que, his phone rang. Rafe knew that ringtone. He just hoped Carson had good news. He wouldn't be able to handle it if he found out she had taken a turn for the worst, right after he had just found her. If the PI's had done their job, he would know that she and her daughter were coming. Hell, if they had, he would have known about Jasmine.
" Talk to me." Rafe ordered as soon as he heard the line connect to Carson.
" She is going to be fine. The doctors have moved her from surgery to recovery. They were stunned by her recovery." He added as relief filled him, with it though, came his worry.
The news also meant that he would have some cleaning up to do as well. Her wolf genes were the reason for her quick healing. Thank heavens for that, but they were also drew the humans attention to her and the humans still didn't truly believe their kind was out there. The last thing his kind needed was for someone to get solid evidence that they did exist.
" They say she won't wake until at least dawn." Carson said, snapping Rafe's attention back to him.
That gave Rafe until morning to digest all this. He needed to also find the answer to the question that had been nagging him since he had first seen Jasmine. The question was playing over and over in his head and with it, his hope that he was right.
" Go do what needs to be done. The pack will care for her." Dad's voice said and Rafe felt ashamed for having forgotten about his dad.
"Thanks pops." Rafe answered, using the nickname that always seemed to make him smile.
The first thing Rafe did was to go to his office and look up all the numbers for hospitals in a small town in Wyoming. The license's date meant she had gone there not long after he had hurt her. He just hoped that the records were still intact. He might also be able to learn more about her life these past few years.
Luckily, there was only one hospital in the town that matched her driver license. Small town offices were also easier to talk into things, he just hoped he was convincing enough. Rafe told the receptionist what happened and that he needed a copy of Jasmine's birth certificate. She agreed without asking questions. She probably assumed the worst and he let her believe it. She agreed to fax it over, so he gave her the number and waited as both fear and hope flowed through him.
When he heard the printer start to print, Rafe darted over to it and waited impatiently. He was both relieved and afraid as he looked at her birth certificate. He immediately saw Tyra's name. Rafe's name was printed in the slot that stated the parent's father.
At the realization, Rafe also realized that he had done this to them. If he had answered her calls, or tried to contact her right after, Rafe would have had both of them and he wouldn't have missed out on so much of our daughter's life. All of this was his fault. He couldn't blame her. She had tried to contact him after that night, but he had been so selfish and arrogant, he had ignored her attempts.
He collapsed in the chair as the severity of what he had done back then, sunk in. He really had no one to blame but himself. Rafe wanted to be mad at her, but she had tried to tell him. She had even tried to show up at the pack house, but he had made one of the omega's make her leave. If he had cared enough to even look out the window, he would have known. She had to of been showing by then.
" Rafe?" Dad's voice called from the other room, and he jumped in response.
He then sighed in acceptance that he could not change what the had done. He then got up and left his office. Rafe took the birth certificate with him though. His mom and dad would be disappointed, but they needed to know. They had a right to know that the little girl in the room next to him was their grandchild.
