As the first sunshines filled the seats, Melanie opened her eyes, she realized they were on an empty highway. She took out her phone and started to check her texts, she could see her phone blowing up with notifications from her mother asking if she was ok. Melanie chest burned to see the text filled with worry. She checked on their location and saw that they are 33 miles away from Galway city, where they started the journey. "Ugh, I stink, and my breathes stink too" Melanie complained.
Few hours later....
That was when Varian woke up and yawned loudly. "Shrimp! What time is it?" Varian shouted as he jolted from the seat, knocking Mia as she screamed in pain. "It is 8 am but we are 33 miles away from school so who cares." Melanie said, rolling her eyes. "Wait, what's your name again?" Mia asked with a smile. "Well call me anything you like, hot headed dragon, or fiery troll, I don't care." Melanie replied with a deathly glare. Mia looked at her and started to cry. "Crybaby" Melanie said. That was when a voice spoke up: "Well then, I would just call you Scarlet since it fits your hot head, grumpy personality. And what did Mia ever do to you, besides being nice?" Varian asked as he raised his voice. His green eyes flashed, demanding an answer. "Oh ok, so you think that jumping in to a random cab, demand them to drive away far, turning our location tracker, went through my things to know the password, set a passcode and then telling us not to call anyone is so "NICE" right?" Returning Varian's green eyes were grayish black eyes that filled with hatred staring back.
"STOP AT ONCE" Milura shouted, "I am trying to get my beauty sleep here" she said as she dosed off. Varian folded his hand, stayed on his side of the seat and stared out of the window. Melanie did the same thing, she rest her chin on the palm of her hand and gazed into the lovely sky.
A few minutes later....
Milura woke up, feeling dazed, as she realized it is already 10 am. She turned around and cried: "Why didn't any of you wake me up! Lets go and get breakfast." Milura said as she hit the gas pedal.
On the passengers seats, Mia was sniffing, Varian was still mad and now Melanie felt bad. She knew she had lost her temper again. "Hey Mia, hey Varian, I am sorry, I lost my temper and I didn't mean those things I said to you." Melanie apologized. Mia and Varian looked at her. "I am sorry too, for dragging you guys into this." Mia said. "I forgive both of you" Varian said.
Milura stopped on the side of the road and explained that she will get some food from the grocery store. "Do not, I say do not leave the car, it is our only protection, got that?" She told them with a serious tone. They all nodded as she leaves the car.
A couple of minutes later
Varian and Mia started to play poker while Melanie watched, since she didn't know how to play poker. Bang. That caught the kids attention as the peered out of the car window to see another bullet launching itself to the ground. They looked at the bullets direction to see Milura running, dragging heavy looking grocery bags, she tripped and fell on the ground, the food scattered as it rained bullets. Milura struggled to get up. "I can't stand it, I am going out to help her, you guys stay inside" Varian said as she darted out of the car. "Wait don't!" Mia said. As he ran, Varian picked up the food and hurriedly placed them in the bag as Milura stood up. "Varian what are you do-" But before she could finish he grab her hand and pull her. "Gosh the wind here is violent" he said.
"Check the first aid kit, Mia" Melanie demands. Mia, who looked at her, shook by the attitude but she turns and searched for the first aid kit as Melanie open the doors for Varian, Milura and the grocery in. They squeezed in tight and shut the door. Milura ended having to climb to get to the drivers seat as she sped up.
"Milura, your arm!" Mia exclaimed at the wound on Milura's arm. "Hand me the first aid kit Mia" Milura groaned as she bandaged the wound up. "Aw dang it, I forgot not to buy more first aid supplies" Milura huffed as she drove off. Melanie's view about Varian slightly changed, just a little, maybe, he is silly, but what he did was brave and yes, stupid at the same time.
"Ooh what are we going to have for dinner today?" Mia asked. Milura didn't reply. "Milura? What are we having for dinner today?" Mia asked in a demanding tone. Milura faced made an annoyed face as she shortly replied: "Fast food" Mia took the hint and quieted down, she knew Milura have to be focus right now. So she laid back on the seat. "Melanie may you pass me something?" She requested. Melanie picked up a box and handed it to Mia. Mia opened the box and squealed in happiness: "Woo hoo, fried chicken!" She gobbled up the chicken like she hadn't eaten in days. "Are you alright?" Melanie asked with the look mixed with disgust and confusion. "Ah, sorry, it's just that my dad is strict with food and diets. You know, a princess always have her very, royal meal and diet. Full of green and no fast food." Mia shrugged. "You're a princess?" Varian asked, his jaw opened wide. "Well yes a mafia princess to be exact." Mia said, winking at the two amazed kids who stare at her like an alien. She enjoyed and was proud when people do give her their attention. There, as Mia blabbed on about her life, Melanie dosed off while Varian tried to stay awake, he didn't want to hurt Mia for not listening to her. Lucky for him, Mia's voice got smaller and weaker as she flopped her head on to the seat and snored. "Finally!" Varian whispered. It's not like he didn't like her talking about her family, he was interested, but the way she tells her story, it feels tangled and it was like it has absolutely no end to it. He rest his chin on his hand, closed his eyes and before he knew it, he was asleep.
