Cassian stood waiting for the debrief report in the main hangar on Yavin IV as ships from the rebel fleet landed one after another. It occurred to him that he hadn't left the rebel base the entire month. There was heightened imperial activity that they needed to monitor and he had been put in charge of questioning sources and imperial defectors. There were a lot of defectors lately. Like this pilot. This was unsurprising as more and more people had started catching glimpses of the Empire's super weapon. Many said it wasn't something they would ever forget.
Senator Mothma had been carrying around a constant frown lately, overwhelmed by the number of rebel leaders arguing over what should be done. Someone had eventually made an interesting discovery and Sgt. Melshi had been sent on a mission to retrieve an important asset. Cassian was now waiting to find out if it would pan out for them.
Eventually officer Treeg came up to him and handed him the report. Cassian scrolled down the screen.
"It took us a while because there were many other transporters but it's done," said Treeg over the roar of the engines.
Cassian frowned and leaned in closer.
"It was a good thing we brought K-2S0 along, sir," Treeg said, raising his voice. "He was able to access and decrypt the transport records, so we could pin point the exact ship."
No doubt he'll be sure to emphasise that his contribution made all the difference, thought Cassian, scoffing.
He nodded and motioned for the officer to follow him. They went into the corridor of the barracks.
"So, you've got her?" he said once they were inside, away from the noise.
"Yes, sir," he replied, hesitating slightly. "A bit of trouble but we did."
"What kind of trouble..." Cassian's voice trailed off as the doors slid open.
"I said, get your hands off me!" A woman's voice shouted. Cassian and Treeg looked over to see a young woman in cuffs, shrugging off a security officer. She had dark brown hair that was pulled back into a low, tight bun and her brown eyes gleamed with indignation.
The security officer grabbed her arm to stop it from flailing about and in a second, she stomped on his foot and gave him an upper cut punch with her right hand. The officer yelped in pain, clutching his face.
Reeling, the officer reacted by pulling out his blaster and holding it to her neck. "Get in line or I'll--"
Cassian leapt forward to pull him back.
"Hey, hey, hey!" he shouted. "That isn't necessary."
The officer stepped back abruptly after seeing who it was. "I'm sorry, sir," he said sheepishly. "She caught me off guard."
The young woman shook herself off and raised her hands defensively. Cassian held his hands in front of him to show her that he wasn't holding anything.
"Calm down," he said in a low tone. "We're not going to hurt you."
She stood still for a moment and looked defiantly into his eyes. After a while, her eyes softened and she looked at the floor.
Cassian held his arm out and motioned to the security officer to head into the briefing room. The officer left with her. Cassian stared after her and he could feel himself slightly flushed.
"As I was saying, Captain," said Treeg, barely able to suppress a smile, "there was a bit of trouble during the extraction."
"Go on," scowled Cassian.
"She took out two of our agents before K2 was able to subdue her. You can ask Sgt. Melshi."
"What do you mean... took out?"
"Just some concussions. They're in the Med bay but they'll be all right by tomorrow, I expect," replied Treeg.
Cassian scoffed. He didn't quite know what to make of this and of her. He was deep in thought when another officer poked his head around the entrance to the briefing room.
"Captain, they're waiting for you to question her," he said.
"I'm coming," grunted Cassian as he walked towards the doors.
"Let's see what she can tell us," he said to Treeg as they walked through the doors.
They could hear General Draven's voice as they walked into the briefing room.
"Jyn Erso. That is your given name is it not?"
Cassian strode up to the console area quietly and leaned on a screen panel. He scrutinised her closely.
He was listening to the conversation between General Draven, Mon Mothma and the girl intently until Mon Mothma said, "This is Captain Cassian Andor. Rebel Intelligence."
He walked towards her and their eyes met.
