Townhall University was one of the best universities in the country. Summer had committed hours upon hours to revision and extra circulars during high school to get all As. Her motivation and ambition were something she was most proud of. Everything about Townhall University spoke to Summer- it had some of the most beautiful campuses in the country and was located near mountains and hiking ranges. But the one thing that stuck out the most to Summer was their War studies and History program.

Summer was a major history nerd and was insistent on studying History at University despite her family's protests. Her father had tried to push her into studying medicine or some type of science but despite Summer getting good grades in science she just knew that it wasn't for her. As her parents had determined that Science was not something that Summer would choose, her mother had tried to push her into pursuing Law; by claiming that due to Summers' urge to always 'debate or argue on something', Law would be the most appropriate. However, Summer was determined that History would be her degree, nor law.

Summer, however, did not know what she would do with her history and war studies degree, but she just chose not to think about it until her mere future.

As those thoughts of her degree plagued Summers' mind, she did not hear her mum repeatedly calling her.

"Summerrr." her mum had drawled out whilst tapping her nails on the steering wheel.

Summer had looked up, "Yes?"

"We're almost here...Are you excited?"

Excited no... nervous yes. So Summer had simply responded with a measly 'Yes'.

Summer looked at her dad typing away furiously on his phone, probably arguing with someone on Twitter about his ridiculous scientific theories (but more like conspiracy theories).

Summer looked out the window and saw the massive mountains and eventually eyed the upcoming campus. Then reality hit Summer.

————-

Summer knew that sharing a room with another person was a massive no for her, so she decided to get her own room. But that came at a massive cost that her parents weren't willing to pay as they claimed that once she turned 18, she was responsible for her own expenses. So, Summer had to opt for a part-time job at some random cafe that she applied to in the holidays.

Upon walking into her new room for the year, she immediately ran to the window and saw the amazing view from her desk.

She saw the tall mountains facing the campus and the blazing sun beaming in. She saw groups of families moving in and some hugging each other goodbye. Summer also saw people running together playing it or skateboarding around.

Her mother sighed beside her, "I wish I had this type of view when I was in university. Instead, I had to commute every day."

Summer just laughed to herself.

Then Summer's dad had brought in the boxes of her clothes and other stuff from the car. Out of breath, he came over to Summer and looked at the view as well.

"Well, you certainly get what you pay for," he said casually.

"What I pay for," Summer replied immediately.

Ignoring this, Summer's dad went to unload some of her stuff whilst Summer went to sit on her new bed trying to grasp reality. The room was fairly average with a desk facing the window, she had her own bathroom (but more like a wet room), and a simple wardrobe in the opposite corner of the room. She had to share a kitchen with others or eat in the cafeteria.

Summer was nervous.

——

After unloading all her stuff, Summer and her parents decided to go to the town closest to get some lunch before Summer had to say her goodbyes.

They opted for a simple Mexican restaurant and ate.

"I can't believe our baby is all grown up." Summer's mum had said.

"It's like she was born yesterday."

"You guys are so dramatic."

"No, we're not dramatic enough. You're a whole city away and we'll miss our baby. Grandma and Grandpa will miss you and baby Isabella will miss you."

As Summer was the only child her grandma had given her a dog when she was 14 to keep her company, and Summer currently missed her deeply.

'When I come back in the winter. I will be a historian deeply educated in military warfare!'

Summer's dad snorted and her mum sniggered.

——-

After lunch, they drove back to campus, and Summer was struck with the realisation that she was going go to be without her parents.

They all stepped out and hugged each other.

"Make sure you call every day."

"We love you!"

Summer waved to them trying to not cry as they got back into their car and slowly drove off leaving Summer there at university all by herself.

———

Summer spent the rest of her night in her room crying.

She already wanted to go home but she was stuck here.

After drying her eyes, she went to snuggle into her new bed and let sleep steal her away.
