Robin's mouth fell open in shock.
"But h-how?" He stuttered in disbelief.
"I would hope that you would know the answer to that question by now. After all, this is not your first child." Dr. Whale sarcastically remarked.
"No, not that. Regina told me that she couldn't get pregnant. Besides, I haven't even been back long enough for her to be this pregnant. How far along is she, anyway?" Robin said, trying desperately to explain himself.
Dr. Whale smiled. "She looks to be about as far along as Zelena is, which would be about three months, but I would have to examine her further to be sure."
At the mention of her sister's name, Regina tried to prop herself up so that she could look straight at the doctor.
"Is? Zelena told us that she had lost her baby." Regina informed the doctor.
"Oh, well I guess I will inform the asylum that I will be needing to schedule an appointment with her as soon as possible. I will let you two know once I do what the results are. After all, you were supposed to be the baby's parents." Dr. Whale said, not quite sure why she would have lost the baby. The last time he had examined her, she had been just fine. There had been no higher risk than usual of a miscarriage, but he supposed it could have happened with the way she was exerting herself earlier that day.
He smiled down at Regina. "Well, I guess congratulations are in order to the both of you." He said, genuinely happy that the former queen would get a child all of her own. One that no one could steal away from her as Henry had.
"Wait, I still don't understand.", Robin cut in, a puzzled look settling over his face once more, "If I was in New York three months ago, how did she get pregnant?"
Dr. Whale chuckled. "That is a very good question. I had assumed that Regina had visited you in New York about three months ago. Are you sure you never saw each other at all in those six months you were apart?" He asked, trying to make sense of the situation.
"No, we never even spoke until I found out that Marian was actually Zelena.", Regina answered, "And before you ask, no I did not see anyone while he was gone. No one-night stands, no nothing." She crossed her arms over her chest defensively as she spoke as though she was trying to protect herself from the truth.
Dr. Whale wiped the gel off of her stomach. "Well, however this happened, it happened. The baby's healthy and so are you, though I do suggest no more wine and minimal coffee." He smiled at them. They would make good parents once they got over their initial shock. That little baby was going to be the luckiest baby ever.
With that, Dr. Whale exited the room. Once Robin was sure that he was out of earshot, he rushed over to Regina's side and placed his hand on her tummy, stroking it soothingly with his thumb. She put her hand on top of his big one and smiled up at him, choosing to be happy about this. After all, it was everything that she had longed for with all of her heart and soul since that fateful day when all hope of that ever happening had been taken from her. He leaned over and kissed her before helping her off of the examination table. He grinned like a little kid at Christmas, grabbing her hips and spinning her around so that she was facing him.
"We're gonna have a baby! We're really gonna have a baby." He said, pulling her towards him so that their bodies were now flush. He could already feel a small bump against him and that only made him grin wider.
"What do you say, Milady? Do you want to go home?" He questioned her, already knowing her answer.
In response, she laid her head against his shoulder and aloud her tired her to flutter shut for a few moments before nodding into his shirt.
Robin circled his arm around his exhausted love, wondering how they were going to get home. Regina was exhausted and pregnant, so simply poofing home was not an option. Walking was also not an option because, again, Regina was exhausted. He pulled out his phone as he and Regina began walking out of the room.
"Hey Regina, who do you hate the least today?", he asked, trying to lighten the mood, "Other than me of course."
She frowned. "What brought this on?" She asked tiredly.
"Because I need to ask someone to give us a ride home as you got us here by poofing." He answered her.
"I can get us home. You don't need to bother anyone, really." She told him.
He looked at her dubiously. "You're exhausted. Trying to push yourself won't do you or the baby any good. I'm sure David wouldn't mind coming to pick us up. He should be finished work by now." He chastised her gently.
"I'm just pregnant, not an invalid, you know." she informed him, and without waiting for a reply she proofed them both back to her house.
When the purple smoke cleared, she staggered slightly, dark spots starting to take over the corners of her eyes. He caught her in his big strong arms before she fell, not letting the situation escalate. He guided her over to a chair and helped her to lower herself in it before settling in beside her, one hand pushing back her hair, the other coming to rest on the side of her face.
"Don't ever do that again, okay? You nearly gave me a heart attack." He told her firmly.
Seeing how tired she was, he decided that that could wait until later. He kissed her softly on lips and then scooped her into his arms causing her to yelp in surprise before snuggling into him. She aloud him to carry her up the stairs to their bed and into the beckoning arms of sleep.
