(Also lemme know what you think of the new POV. I kind of like writing as the reader lol.)

Reader's POV

Short gasps of air left your lips as you dug the toes of your sneakers harder into the dirt below to keep your balance. You stretched forward, grabbing your metal water bottle from the picnic table and turning it upside down to allow a stream of the ice cold liquid to flow down your throat. As you gulped heavily, some of the water escaping, trickling and running down the sides of your neck.

The run itself hadn't been too bad, a mere mile to get your blood pumping for the long day ahead of you. Jay had mostly packed it full of stuffy meetings with executives and on-call studio sessions with some other artists to discuss new music; the latter being something you typically looked forward to.

But today was different.

It had been nearly nine months since you'd spoken to Camila, not at all surprising considering the outcome of your last meeting. You felt your heart pang with sadness as your mind produced an image of the stunning woman, your fingernail scratching at the cracked wood. Unshed tears glimmered in your eyes and heat crept up your chest as you glanced around to make sure no paparazzi were snapping photos of you.

The last thing your poor publicist needed today was another mess of photos to clean up. She'd had the misfortune of having to set about fixing all the rumors swirling about you and Camila's relationship...or lack thereof.

Your publicist had called you the day after your conversation with Camila calmly trying to explain the situation to your already frazzled brain. Photos had surfaced of the brunette leaving the cafe in a rush with tears streaming down her face and appeared in a quite scandalous article. The next series of photos after that were of you leaving the cafe wiping away a few stray tears as you hurried to your car.

Fans and gossip pages were quick to make assumptions and had twisted it into a whole cheating scandal, much to the chagrin of you considering you'd been made out to be the unfaithful partner in their imaginations.

You had to give kudos to both you and Camila's teams though for handling the situation swiftly, but as selfish as it sounded, the sting of your morality being in question over a few scant photos taken out of context was something you hadn't expected would hurt so much.

You leaned your back against the edge of the table as you watched a few ducks waddle past you towards the pond, smiling at the adorable little 'quacks' that resounded every few minutes. For a moment, the pain in your heart dulled to something more palatable, something that didn't feel like your heart was cruelly being torn in half.

Laughter to your right made your head swivel in curiosity. A couple making their way up the path, arms linked together as they gazed out towards the water. You watched as the man grabbed some of the bread from the loaf cradled in the woman's arms and toss it gently towards the ducklings. Once he had looked away, a mischievous smile spread across the woman's face as she flicked a few of crumbs at her companion before bursting into fits of laughter at his surprised gasps.

You couldn't help the small bittersweet smile that spread across your own face as you watched the romantic scene, memories of you and a certain Cuban walking through this very same park popping up your mind. Sighing, you diverted your attention from the happy scene and lifted your sweaty body from the bench.

Everything had changed, but not the way you had hoped it would.

Ruffling your wet curls with a towel, you sat down in front of your laptop; cool air from the open window above your desk hitting your bare skin. You were finally ready to relax for the night, having finished your last meeting a bit early and just in time to watch the new episode of your favorite show.
