(Reader's POV)
"You couldn't have waited one more day so that we could get emergency exit seats?" Shawn groaned as he unzipped his backpack, knees fully pushed against the seat in front of him.
You shot him an annoyed expression over your book, effectively shutting him up. You weren't exactly happy with being folded like a pretzel for six and a half hours either, but you needed to see Camila.
Everything that had happened in the last twenty-four hours had culminated into an intense desire to see her. You felt yourself being drawn in her direction, not sure if hopping on a plane spontaneously was more of a foolish or romantic gesture.
Your eyes travelled back over to Shawn's side and you tapped his shoulder with one finger; setting your open book face down on the tray table. He took out his headphones, raising his eyebrows in response.
"Am I stupid for doing this?" You asked hesitantly.
"Would it matter what I thought? Plus we're already on the damn plane." He quipped, smile fading when he saw your eyes shift down to your lap.
Shawn sighed lowly and put his pen down, closing his leather bound journal.
"To be honest, yes and no. No, because I think you two are meant for each other. Being friends with the two of you and having an outsider's perspective, it was easy to see that the two of you were the happiest when you were together. You both complimented each other and I can honestly say that I've seen the two of you help each other grow as people."
You were moved by his words, feeling yourself get slightly choked up by his honesty. His dark brown eyes were always full of sincerity when he spoke of the relationship between you and Camila. But from the way he paused, you knew he wasn't done.
You cleared your throat and nodded, urging him to finish his thought.
"But yes because she's not the same woman that she was three years ago. You're not the same person either, Y/n. I think the issue is that you want to just pick up where you left off when you left for Colorado without actually dealing with any of the shit that obviously happened in between then and now."
You chewed on your bottom lip thoughtfully, mulling over your friend's words as you stared out at the rays of early morning sun peeking through the clouds. Your stomach was already full of nervous tingles, but now they had exploded with pangs of regret.
Had it been a complete mistake to get on the plane?
"So." You said slowly, "In a way, you're saying it is a mistake?"
Shawn shook his head emphatically, "No. I'm saying that the choice itself is okay, but you should maybe change your approach to things with Camila. Maybe just trying to be her friend first will get you further than trying to force yourself back into her life as something more."
You thought about Shawn's advice long after the musician had fallen asleep next to you. Being friends with someone who you loved was going to be extremely hard, but if it meant having her in your life, you'd definitely give it a shot.
_________________________________Your body jolted slightly as the plane's wheels made contact with the tarmac below. You opened your eyes and yawned, hearing the pilot come over the speaker to inform all passengers to remain seated until the plane had arrived at the gate. Shawn stirred next to you and ran a tired hand through his messy locks, pushing them out of his face.
Once the plane came to a stop, you stood, swinging your backpack over your shoulder and pulled your small suitcase from the overhead compartment.
The two of you made your way down the ramp and into the airport terminal, pausing to wave at a couple of fans that had spotted you. You cringed internally, knowing that your faces would be splattered all over social media soon, and wanting to get to Camila's as soon as possible.
