Do you ever have those naps where when you wake up, it's almost like you forgot who you were? That is exactly what happened when my alarm woke me up about ten minutes ago.
Jerking upright in my bed, the light coming in through my window momentarily blinded me. My entire right arm was asleep from the position I managed to get myself in while sleeping. I reached over and picked up the day old glass of water from my nightstand, downing whatever was left. And that leaves you to where I am now.
Groggily, I kick my comforter off of me. I walk into the bathroom connected to my room and quickly pee and splash some water on my face to wake up. Walking back into my room, I pull my computer out of my bag and plop back onto my bed.
For the next hour or so, I go over any notes I took in sociology over the past few days, annotating them, and creating a separate document to put special terms and information down. I also quickly glance at emails from my professors to make sure I have no surprise assignments to do, which thankfully I don't.
I close my laptop and plug it into the charger on my desk. Grabbing my phone, I leave my room, walking into the living room and turning the tv on. I scroll until I find the Spotify app, clicking it and setting the volume low. Contemplating what vibe of music I want in my head, I decide to go with a 70s playlist. The hum of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" floats through the apartment.
Lightly singing along, I check the time to see it is 5 pm. Pulling out my phone, I see that Lorelei texted me two minutes ago saying she was leaving Micah's in about ten minutes. His apartment is about fifteen minutes from here so that gives me plenty of time to start working on dinner.
Cooking is usually my responsibility, as it's one of my favorite things to do. So, naturally I pull out chicken breasts, cherry tomatoes, spinach, and feta cheese from the fridge, along with some salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, and some cayenne pepper from the cabinet. Grabbing a cutting board and a skillet, I begin to prep everything. I chop the cherry tomatoes in halves, season the chicken heavily, and start heating up the oil in the pan.
Just as I place the first chicken breast into the pan, Lor walks in through the door. "Hey, whatcha cooking?" she asks as she sets her keys down on the counter.
"I'm making some feta chicken. We have leftover rice in the fridge, so I thought we could have it with that, if that sounds alright?" I say as I place the other chicken breast into the pan and place the cutting board into the sink.
"That sounds delicious, Isla. Let me go change real quick," she says as she walks down the same hallway I went down earlier. Her room is right across from mine.
Once the chicken is cooked, I add the tomatoes in, and add some seasoning to those, before putting both the feta and spinach in. Taking the pan off the heat, I grab the rice out of the fridge and place it into the microwave to heat it up.
