TW: homophobia, no reddie :(

richie took a deep breath as his bike pulled up to eddie’s house. he nervously got off and walked up to the door, knocking slowly. the door opened to ms. kaspbrak and she looked down at him expectantly. richie clicked his tongue, despite all of his jokes, believe it or not, he never really liked ms. kaspbrak at all. and he knew for a fact she hated him.

she raised her eyebrow. “well?” richie cleared his throat and looked up at her. her stare slowly formed into a glare. “if you’re not going to say anything get the hell off my property.” she yelled, getting all in his face. richie tried his best not to gag.

“i wanna hang out with eddie,” said richie, plain and straightforward. “today’s the last day of summer.”

ms. kaspbrak tsked and turned around, facing the inside of the house. “eddie-bear! your little friend is here!” she called in a sing-song voice. richie rolled his eyes. he just knew she was fighting the urge to say “this little shit is here to bother you to hell and back and i really don’t want you to go but you’re gonna bitch about it if i don’t let you.” eddie appeared at the door a moment later.

“hey rich,” he said, a smile forming subtly on the corners of his mouth.

“heyo, wheezy! nice weather, ey?” richie joked. he held out a hand for eddie and bowed dramatically. “come, for we have an adventure of a lifetime waiting for us!” eddie rolled his eyes and held on to richie’s hand, gasping slightly when richie yanked him out of the doorway and ran away as fast as he could before sonia could yell at him.

the two laughed as they ran from the house, running as fast as their legs would take them. after a while, they both stopped, doubling over and panting for breath. after that they had to walk on, but neither of them complained. more time with each other, really. gave richie more time to get reddie for his big ass mf confession.

richie fiddled with his hands as he whistled, trying to find a way he could entertain himself. eddie noticed how richie wasn’t talking, he hadn’t said anything since they’d stopped running. and that was a good five minutes ago. at least.

he nudged richie slightly in the ribs. “you good, trashmouth?” he said casually. richie lowered his head to hide the blush forming on his pale cheeks. that nickname. daddy marry me. wait what in the ever loving fuck am i thinking. ok. what the fuck. he nodded, silently chastising himself for being a fuckin weirdo while thinking. eddie frowned. “okay, clearly something’s up. what is it?”

“nothin’ eds, just thinking i guess,” richie responded quietly. yeah, thinking about daddy? seriously, dude. what the flying flippity flappity flip flop flop floop fick fack fuck? he cleared his throat, as if that was the reason he’d responded so quietly. “you worried about lil ol’ me?” he said much more cheerfully. he wrapped an arm around eddie’s shoulder and brought him in for a side hug.

“mhm, yeah, ok.” eddie rolled his eyes and pulled out of the side hug, but he kept his arm wrapped around richie’s shoulder. just in case.

“hey eds?” richie blurted out. eddie looked up at him and tilted his head slightly. richie bit the inside of his cheek to keep himself from blushing. “where’re we headed off to, anyway?”

eddie looked forward and grimaced. “the barrens.”

richie quickly grabbed eddie’s arm and turned away, dragging eddie along with him. eddie didn’t argue. didn’t even ask. he and the rest of the losers had been uncomfortable near the barrens since pennywise.

they walked for a while until they came to a familiar park, and richie sat himself down on a nearby bench. he looked up at eddie, smirked, and pat his knee welcomingly. eddie scoffed and sat down next to richie, glaring at him.

richie giggled stupidly. “i’m sorry, i’m sorry.”

eddie rolled his eyes and sighed. “whatever.”

hey smegsy hot daddy wheezy

WHAT THE FUCK.

the two talked for a while until richie stopped and sighed. eddie looked over at him worriedly. “you okay?”

he swallowed hard and looked at eddie. “i, uh, i wanted to tell you something. today,” he chewed on the inside of his lip nervously. “eddie, you know how we’ve been friends before we ever met any of the other losers?” eddie nodded suspiciously, whatever richie wanted, he didn’t trust him. “well, that means we know each other better than anyone else, and i know you may not agree with what i’m gonna say,” he paused, swallowed again. “but i know you’re worth the risk.”

eddie nodded, worried. he had never seen richie so serious. he hadn’t said one “ur mom” joke all day, and that was extremely unlike richie. hadn’t even mentioned her.

“eddie,” eddie felt himself being pulled out of his thoughts, back to richie. he looked at him expectantly. “i like you, eddie. and i know you like me back, as a friend. but i don’t mean friendship, i like you.” richie’s nails dug into the skin in his hands. his fists were balled up so tight they were shaking.

eddie sat silent. thinking. richie stared at him terrified. he had no idea what was going on in eddie’s head, but he could assume it wasn’t anything good. finally, eddie looked up. he didn’t look at richie. he simply got up, and left.

richie felt his heart drop. he quickly got up and practically ran up to eddie. he put his hand on eddie’s shoulder, only for him to swat it away immediately.

“get the hell off me!” he said, practically yelling. he pushed richie away, causing richie to stumble and fall on his ass. richie looked up at eddie as tears welled up in his eyes, threatening to fall. eddie glared down at him, as if daring him to get up. “you’re disgusting.”

richie felt like his chest had been opened and his heart had been punched directly. (that shit hurts, buddy. wouldn’t recommend it.) his head pounded as his vision blurred with tears. he felt the lump in his throat become too hard to keep down and he slipped out a sob. tears spilled from his eyes. eddie’s glare dropped for a moment, but he turned around and walked away before he could let himself say anything.

richie sat there crying for who knows how long before he finally got too tired to continue. he got up and stretched his stiff muscles. he walked back miserably to his house, not bothering to look for eddie, and opened the door to see his parents, both angry.

“where were you?” maggie said, almost shouting. “do you know how worried we were? you’ve been gone for more than three ho-” her anger dropped and she shut up when she saw the miserable look on her sons face. “richie, hon, what happened?” she came over to richie and wrapped him up in a comforting hug, and richie noticed how wentworths anger had subsided as well as his mom’s. richie took a deep breath to control his sobs, but it was worthless as he immediately began sobbing uncontrollably into his mothers shoulder.

she led him over to the couch, where went sat watching the two. she sat on the couch and he practically laid on top of her sobbing into the crook of her neck. “deep breaths, hon. deep breaths,” she said calmly, her voice soft and soothing. went rubbed his shoulder comfortingly as he gasped and choked on sobs, slowly getting more and more calm.

after some time, he had calmed down. he sat on the couch, leaning mostly on his mom, working on taking deep breaths as she instructed. went had to leave for his second job, so it was just he and his mom for the night.

“would you mind telling me what happened?” richie froze. he’d forgotten that he’d have to tell her why he just had a fucking breakdown. he looked down at the floor, peeling away at loose skin on his hands. “don’t worry, take your time. just know, no matter what me and your father will always love you,” she spoke soothingly.

richie took a deep breath, and decided to tell her the truth. “well, i..” he paused. took a shaky breath. “i have a crush on someone, and i confessed today,” his mother looked at him with pitying but comforting eyes. but he could tell, from the way she looked at him, she knew he wasn’t telling her everything. he took a couple shaky breaths before he finally said straight up, “he said i was disgusting.”

her smile dropped immediately. richie felt his heart ache. she lied to him. she said her and his father would always love him no matter what. she lied. she lied to him. she-

“what is wrong with him?” she said, much louder. she was clearly angry. “he has absolutely no right to judge you, you can’t simply choose who you do and don’t like.” richie smiled, she didn’t seem the slightest bit angry at him for being gay. she didn’t even seem surprised. (w mommy maggie 😩)

“you’re not mad?” richie asked, with the most flabbergasted look on his face. her anger dropped immediately as she tucked it down deep inside her. she smiled at him, a warm, excepting smile. not a smile full of pity, or worry. acceptance. richie smiled too, tears beginning to fog his vision. “thank you,” he said without really thinking.

her smile widened, and she leaned over to kiss the top of the boy’s head. she wrapped him up tightly in her arms and he accepting it, hugging her back. “i love you no matter what, richie. who you like, or what gender you like, doesn’t matter to me. as long as you’re happy.”

richie had tears running down his cheeks. happy tears, of course. yes, eddie had rejected him. called him disgusting. but oh well. eddie didn’t have to support richie if he didn’t want to. if that’s the kind of friend eddie wanted to be to richie, then so be it. he had been a total dick to richie, yes, but richie didn’t like him any less than he had before. he didn’t care any more. he didn’t need his approval, all he really needed, as sad or childish as it sounds, was his mom’s approval and acceptance (not gonna talk about the fact that i confidently wrote exceptance). and that was all that richie needed.

a/n: moral of the story, if people are homophobic fuck them you don’t need them especially if their name rhymes with keddie masbrak<3
