i was reading and i just really wanted something like this to happen so i'm gonna write it ok? ok

minor background information if you want to read it: a world where everyone over the age of 16 had gotten a disease of some sort, but no signs had shown until years later. if you survive the disease all human instincts are turned off and all animal instincts are turned on. you feast on children to calm your hunger. you dont receive the disease by getting bit necessarily, but aggression and mild insanity might start to show. (if you were younger than sixteen when the disease started showing then you're fine, no one over sixteen after the disease has shown any signs) ed (16-17) found sam (9-10) and the kid (9-10, who refuses to tell his name and insists on going by the kid) a couple weeks before this. sam was taken away from his sister, ella. and after a whole book of struggling he found the kid and escaped the sickos (adults with the disease) who captured him. he found ed and explained that he couldn't stay and needed to find his sister so ed promised to get him back to her. basically too many things to explain happened after that.

characters: ed, sam, the kid, ella (mentioned, 7-8), kyle (16-17), museum kids, holloway kids

(current perspective: sam)

"this is your fault.." sam whispered. ed looked down at him, cocking an eyebrow.

"what?"

"this is all your fault!" he screamed, finally letting all his anger out. the kid tried to put a hand on his shoulder, but he swatted it away. he backed away towards ed, and for once, looked scared. of sam.

"who decided to go to the museum a day later? you! who decided to come all the way out here just to find someone who's dead. you. who's fault is all of this? yours. yours yours yours. it's all your fault!"

"sam-" ed tried to hug sam, calm him down.

"no!" sam screamed, shoving him off. "don't touch me! you'll probably try to kill me! like you killed my sister!" at this, all of the museum kids eyes widened. sam noticed this, but hardly cared at all. one girl, one of the leaders of the holloway kids, came at him slowly. he glared at her, daring her to come any closer. he looked back at ed. "you bastard. you murderer. you psycho. you killed my sister. you murderer. you- you murderer..."

ed sighed, his exhaustion evident. "sam, please. calm down."

but sam didn't have any of it. he kept shouting and calling ed the worst names he could think of. ed tried multiple times to calm him down but he wouldn't comply. he kept screaming and yelling until his throat hurt, and even then he continued so. "i hate you! i hate you i hate you i ha-"

"shut up!"

sam went silent. he looked around, expecting everyone to look at him. no one was. they were looking behind him. he felt a hand on his shoulder, and turned around, expecting to see ed. it was the kid. sam wanted to hug him, but he shook his head, turned around. sam looked at what everyone was looking at, and a river of guilt washed over him.

ed was crying. and sam had never seen ed cry. ever. he looked at kyle, who now held ed, who was crying into his shoulder. kyle glared at him. "you just don't know when to stop. you expected him to know exactly when and where your sister would leave, but let's face it. ed may be mature, but he's still just a kid. all of us are. you can't expect him to know everything. and honestly, kid, she probably thinks you're dead. that's why she left. and now she's probably dead, too. you called ed some messed up stuff you know," sam bit his lip, trying to swallow down the growing lump in his throat. "murderer? really? murderer? look i don't know what's happened in ed's life but you calling him a murderer really hit him. you of all people should know everyone has trauma that can be triggered with something so simple as a word."
