I raised my eyebrows at the sight in front of me. Why was Phil with Ferran? Okay, the two clubs had played a charity match. Makes sense. But I didn't have to see his face on my Instagram feed first thing in the morning. Turning my phone off in annoyance, I got ready— I had a big day ahead of me today. I was launching my fall line, and big magazines such as Vogue and Dazed were covering the launch.
I had had a busy summer. After coming back from Mykonos, I had spent the rest of summer with friends and family. Mason and I had spent some time with his niece, Summer; we got a dog named Peanut after Phil and I went to the zoo and I fell in love with animals; I had relocated my shop to a bigger store in more Central London; and oh, Mason and I had moved in together. It happened somewhat suddenly, but I felt that it was the right time.
Towards the beginning of August, my landlady told me that she would have to kick me out at the end of the month. They were doing construction on the apartment that I was living in. As I began house-hunting for a new place, Mason had suggested that I move in with him.
"I mean, I know it's early and we haven't been together for that long, but you practically live here anyway. I'm ready if you are, and I think it would be good for us. Besides, we co-parent a dog, so it would make sense for us to live under the same roof too, you know."
And so the move began. I didn't have much to take with me, really. The only thing that changed was that now I had my own house keys to his— to our— house. We had had our first real argument about this issue, actually.
"Mase, you know I can't let you do that. I do want to move in with you, but that means we have to split it. Just tell me how much rent is."
"It's fine, Char. I'm the one that wanted you to move in with me, so it's only fair that I pay—"
"Goddamn it, Mase. If we're in a relationship, we're equals. That means financially, too. I don't want to be financially dependent on you."
"..."
"Is this because you think I can't pay for rent?"
"I own the place. So I don't pay rent."
"Oh, my, god." Charlotte said, burying her face in her hands. "I don't even want to know how much this house costs."
