AUTHOR POV.Mason felt his heart drop to the ground when he heard a scream and a large crash. No matter how many times he called her name, there was no reply. He feared the worst when he called the ambulance for her.
He didn't give a damn about the fact that they were still in the middle of their gym session— it wasn't important right now. He checked her location using his phone, and called a cab to get there immediately. The entire time he was in the cab, he rapped his fingers impatiently against the window, constantly asking the driver if he could go any faster.
When he arrived, his heart sank— anyone could tell that there had been an accident here. The area had been secured by police tape, and he could see his car completely totaled. It was being towed away. Police cars surrounded the scene, but Charlotte was nowhere in sight.
Mason pushed to the front of the car and asked, "Excuse me, sir. The driver, where did the ambulance take her?"
"I'm sorry, but that's personal information—"
"I called the goddamn ambulance. Just tell me where she is."
When he arrived at the hospital, she was in the ER, about to be taken up to surgery. Mason begged the doctors to be able to see her before she went to surgery, but the doctors refused. "With all due respect, sir, we don't have time for that right now. She needs to be taken up to surgery, and she needs to be taken up to surgery right away."
He was sat in the waiting room for what seemed like hours when Phil arrived. The moment he walked into the waiting room, Phil grabbed Mason by the neck of his collar and asked,
"She gets into a car crash and you don't fucking tell me about it?" He was enraged. "The hospital has to call me?"
"How'd—"
"I'm her medical power of attorney."
"Look, man. I don't know what happened and I didn't even think of calling, or doing anything. I'm just, I can't—"
Phil sighed and simply sat down on the chair nearby, waiting for her to be out of surgery. She had been in the OR for eight hours now.
It was during the twelfth hour that the doctors approached the two of them and said, "She's out of surgery."
"Can we go see her? Is she okay?" Phil asked.
"She's suffered a lot of injuries and damage but she'll be okay with time." The surgeon body-blocked the two of them from getting past her and said, "And you can't go see her yet. She's in the ICU."
"When will she leave the ICU?"
"We're going to leave her there overnight. And.... The police want to talk to her before she arrives."
"The police? Why?" Mason asked, furrowing his brows.
"I'm sorry. We can't disclose that."

The hospital was flooded with Charlotte's friends— Lily, Charlotte, Sophia, Izabel, Ben, Kai. The list was endless.
They all waited outside the ICU, where they could see her through the glass door. She was in terrible shape— she had a cast around one arm, and her head was wrapped in a cast too. She was hooked up to more machines and wires than could be counted.
When she finally woke up after a full day of being unconscious, they weren't allowed to talk to her— the police had to talk to her first. A couple of officers entered the room, and started asking her some questions. Mason couldn't make out the words, but she could see that they were getting into a heated conversation. He could tell that Charlotte was raising her voice, and there was no doubt that she looked exasperated and angered.
