Chapter 7 : Cellmates

Jino POV
My hands were cuffed and I refuse to speak to the police. I know my rights and I'm not going to criminalize myself. I follow their orders and get in the police car and low and behold Em and Reem are both cuffed in the car. "What's up bro?" Reem says "nothing just having a blast" I say with an eye roll. "I was driving Reem home and we got pulled over by the laws and they cuffed us" Em explains. "I hope y'all didn't say anything" I whisper to them. "Ummm no nothing at all" Reem responds while turning his head to look out the window. I nod my head in annoyance. We arrived at the police station to get booked. They took our fingerprints and took our mugshots. They placed all three of us in a holding cell. "I can't be here bruh I got a bio test tomorrow ughhh" Reem complains. "You'll be aight" Em replies. "I'm not gonna be aight  once my mom finds out I'm done, she gonna whoop my ass then kick me out the house. I'm gonna be homeless at 18" "Nigga relax your a highschooler they can't put us in actual jail" "nigga we 18 so we technically adults" "bro chill" "my life is over my life is over, why are y'all not freaking out we are over we are going to". I break my silence "Keem shut the fuck up damn you pissing me off" I yell at him. "Nigga who you talking too don't start with me" Keem argues back. "You acting like a bitch" I reply he gets up and squares up with me "what's up let's go you don't want no smoke boy" "Both y'all acting like some goofy ass niggas' ' Em interferes. "But Reem is right, we are going to jail, our life is basically over".

9 hours later
February 16th  4:00 am

An officer walks towards the cell and opens it "wake up fellas you are free to go" Kareem jumps up "are you being for real?" he asks. Emmanuel and Jino start waking up "you all are free to go home, unless you want to stay here?" "No no sir" Kareem hurry's out of the cell, the rest of the boys follow him in confusion. The boys make their way to the front office of the police station and all their parents are sitting in the waiting area. Kareems mom yells in french "qu'est-ce qui ne va pas avec toi garçon. J'étais au travail et j'ai reçu un appel disant que mon fils était en prison As-tu perdu la tête ?" She continues to yell at him in french (what the hell is wrong with you boy. I was at work and got a call that my son is in jail. Have you lost your damn mind?) "Desole mama"  (mom I'm sorry) Kareem responds. "Ramène ton cul d'idiot à la voiture" (get your dumb ass in the car)  they leave while Kareem's mom gives the death stare to Emmanuel and Jino. "Emmanuel, have you lost your mind?" Emmanuel's mom yells at him. He stays silent. "Why would you just throw your life away like this? I am so disappointed in you" she says in disappointment and confusion. Emmanuel stays silent and just stares at her. "Do you not hear me talking or are you deaf?" She yells. "I don't know" he responds looking down. "Wait until I tell your father" she walks away and leaves. Emmanuel stays in his spot. "Bring yo stupid ass outside?" his mom comes back to yell at him. He leaves and gets in the car. Then there was Jino and his dad. Jino's dad just looks at him in disappointment and goes outside to his car. Jino follows behind him and enters the car.

The car ride is silent and Jino is looking out the window. "Why didn't you come to me ? his dad says". "I needed to handle it on my own. I'm not a kid anymore". " Jino you're right you are not a child anymore that's why you shouldn't be making dumb decisions like this. You out of everyone should know how much I sacrificed to give you guys a better life. Why would you put your family in danger like this?" Jino stays silent. "Not only did you put yourself in harm's way, you put your friends in danger and got them involved" "do you understand what you just did ?" "im sorry dad I made a mistake" "and I understand that, but do you realize I had to reach out to your uncle to fix this problem by and get you and your friends out of jail, and if you know anything about your uncles you know that nothing comes debt free" " do you know how it looks like for me to go running back to my family for help because of your so called mistake?" "I'm sorry dad" Jino responds. " What was the problem anyway?" he asks. "There is a group of guys from my school and they constantly run around terrorizing people,  and they are always going out their way trying to fight me and my friends. A couple days ago they tried to come shoot us when we were out with our friends so I had to teach them a lesson". "Okay then i'm glad you defended yourself but let this be the last time this happens" "okay. But how did you get them to let us out?" "dont worry about it, just do not mention the situation to anyone and let your friends know as well. Pretend like nothing happened and i'll take care of everything ""okay". They arrive home and enter the house while Jinos mom waits in the living room. "Entonces que paso ?" (son what happened?) she asks. " me meti en una pelea" (I got in a fight). "Es mejor que hayas ganado" (you better have won ) she said. They all burst out laughing "no te preocupes" (don't worry).

5 hours earlier 11:00 pm

A Police officer walks up to a  cell "Inmate 114 is now ready for release". "Copy that" guard responded. "Morton Jemeel you are free to go" said the guard. The cell opens and Morton walks out of the prison with a devilish grin.
