Coming in Last

Loneliness,

You never really experience it

Until you are the last person on earth.

There is truthfully nobody to turn to,

Not a single human body left.

How do I that I am really

The very last individual remaining?

To be completely honest,

I don’t.

There are so many possibilities

That there is someone else in my position

On the other side of this big world

Sitting there alone

With my exact thoughts.

This is really it,

The best day of my life.

True, everybody is gone,

But I can finally do whatever

I want, no limits at all.

I can go full out

Shoplift without being stopped

Steal a car without a police chase

Speed without getting a ticket

Eat without paying.

I don’t care if I have to be alone

For the rest of my life,

I’m going on an adventure

A road trip that will never end.

I am still in complete shock.

Last night had to be the

Scariest, most horrifying thing

I have ever experienced.

Anyone who saw it

Would think it was a tornado

But tornadoes definitely do not

Wipe out the human race.

I was home alone

I looked out the window

Every human sucked up by this wind

Up into the clouds,

Never to be seen again.

None of the televisions work

All websites on the internet are down,

The lights are off everywhere

That’s the least of it.

A regular large tornado

Would wipe out whole cities

And wreck buildings.

This is no “large tornado”

All of the buildings

Are still standing, untouched.

Everything looks like

Nothing happened, except

For the people,

They are all gone.

To be alone.

Every day for the past 24 years,

Nobody ever left me alone,

Finally everybody’s off my back

Because they’re all dead.
