"So?" The eyes behind the orange visor sharpened. "You still dare to come to me after ignoring my advice?"

They say, don't judge a book by its cover. Not everything was as it seemed. Fang thought that Captain Solar, his mentor at TAPOPS, who seemed selfish, arrogant, and harsh on the outside, had something underneath that "cover" as well. But the aura of greatness was too bright to ignore and once again Fang couldn't see what was underneath. Moreover, he was in a weak position at the moment.

"Whatever the outcome, shouldn't I still report to you?" replied Fang, looking at the captain who was the same age as him. More precisely, not exactly the same age. Solar was one month older than him when measured by Earth years.

Fang's latest mission today involved his alien siblings, Sai and Shielda. Sai's life was in danger and Fang sacrificed the mission for the twins. He thought of Shielda who would be sad if her brother died. He let the galactic villain escape with TAPOPS' precious treasure once again.

And, now, he had to face a hail of criticism from Solar.

"You've grown soft. Your dead friends can testify to that," Solar snapped.

"But no one died on this mission," Fang protested. "Don't talk like someone else died-"

"None of your comrades died, but one more power sphere failed to be salvaged," Solar cut him off. "Do you know that means the lives of some people on other planets might be at stake? We're in a galactic war, haven't you forgotten?"

Fang fell silent.

Solar coughed. "Oh, pardon me. Not 'comrades' but 'siblings'," he added sarcastically.

"Captain Solar," Fang tried to argue, "this is a difficult time for both Sai and Shielda. They just lost their father last week, I can't let any more grief befall them if I can help it."

"And with that sentimental thinking of yours, you failed to bring Stealthbot home," Solar said coldly. "You also lost your chance for promotion."

Fang couldn't believe what he was hearing. "How can you think of power when your subordinates are dying?!"

"Weren't you the one who desperately tried to make your older brother proud? And, today, you threw away your chance. You'll have to start over from scratch, Lance Corporal Fang."
