I shuffle on the balls of my feet watching as Dr. Connors leaves, "If you'd like to gather around." Gwen softly says, standing aligned with Gwen as the group surrounds a holographic image of a tree at different limbs were species Connors planned on swapping DNA from.
"Welcome to Oscorps tree of life. Our planet's tree of life is immense. At Oscorps cross-species division..."
I look behind me as wind swishes past. I raise my brows watching Peter try and sneak past the group. Back stepping with my hands behind my back, tapping the paper on my board, I force Peter to stop as I land in front of him. "Where're you goin', Pete?"
His shoulders lock up at his neck and he garners a nervous smile. "Just... around."
I hum with pursed lips and nod, "Just around?"
He hums and clears his throat, "I was gonna say I worked here... but you saw me at the lobby and you... do in fact work here."
I laugh and nod as he shrugs, "Why're you here in the first place, Pete." His eyes seem to brighten whenever I say his name.
"I snuck in here because I love science." He quips, it's so painfully obvious that it's a ploy, I nod and tilt my head.
"I'm pretty sure that's a crime, Peter." I say with mock seriousness, he shuffles on his feet swaying side to side.
"Maybe." He mumbles, I grin despite myself.
"Well, I have to help Gwen lead this tour group, we're continuing this later, try not to get me fired, I quite like this internship." I give a little warning, pointing one finger at him with raised brows and he nods a few times.
"I promise I won't." He raises one hand in a show of defeat.
I fasten my eyes on him again and squint, "Stay with the group, Peter."
He purses his lips and nods. Spinning around I make myself known back at Gwen's side as the AI gets to the end of her explanation.
"Alright guys, I'm gonna take you to the bioreactor room now." Gwen says and walks backwards for a second before turning around, murmurs and whispers way too loud to be considered whispers fill the group as they talk. I look over my shoulder watching Peter break exactly what he promised not to do.
He bumps into a man in a suit, I haven't seen him before. Peter apologizes and looks down. Rolling my eyes I let him have his destructive fun before walking over to him after giving Gwen a half assed excuse. I clap a harsh hand on Peter's shoulder forcing him to bend to the left as he walks.
"Peter Parker, what did I say?" I growl out under my breath.
"Yeah... yeah." He mumbles absentmindedly as he rushes down a hall trying to act non-suspicious. I eye the tall man he'd bumped into and connect the dots.
"Are you following him? Parker!" I whisper-shout looking around us with wide eyes.
"He had something I recognized, it's okay." He whispers back to me vaguely. I glare at him and take him by the wrist forcing us to a complete stand-still.
"Peter. Explain now or I go back with you by the ear and turn you in. I could lose my internship!" I bite out, my brows creasing, and I could feel my own frown.
He puffs out an exhale and looks beside us at the man disappearing down the hall. He grabs my hand that was holding his wrist, "I will later, I promise."
Keeping my hand in his he pulls us down the hallway quicker to catch up. He pushes me against a corner of a wall and peers past me as the man puts in a code and opens a door. I ignore said man as I stare up at Peter, his body partially pushed into mine as he holds us against the wall, hidden. His glasses staying perfectly on the ridge of his nose, makes me wonder why he fixes them all the time. His eyes drift down to me after a moment and run over my face before he steps back with a thick swallow.
"Come on." Grabbing my hand again he pulls us to the door.
"He put in a code, how're you planning on getting in?" I whisper too scared to go any higher, with a not-very-well-hidden smug smirk he starts sliding numbers together before it dings and turns green, letting us in. He looks around us before slithering inside. Eidetic memory, Peter Parker just keeps getting more interesting, doesn't he?
I look around the white room, robotic arms placing capsules on things I couldn't quite see. "I've known you a whole two days and I'm already gathering up enough criminal offenses for life in prison." I grumble as he pulls us towards a glass door, a dark room with blue lights dimming it. He reaches to open the door and I snatch the hand.
"Peter, no. This is enough, we have to leave." I seethe through clamped teeth,
He looks down at me, "Just a few more minutes."
I groan but don't fight him as he opens the glass door and steps inside, I grip the side of the door with white knuckles as he walks around, looking at all the spider–like webs and glowing experimental spiders.
I keep stationed at the door refusing to step inside. He hooks a finger around a specific web spring and pulls it. It vibrates and the machines soft spinning hisses to a halt and the hands holding the webs above us start shaking forcing the special spiders to fall.
"Peter! What did you do!" I whisper-shout as he flinches and looks around him, my eyes widen, and I force a gag away as they all start falling on him. He grunts and tenses as he shakes his head trying to get them off. Bending at the back, he swats at his head and shoulders.
"Come on, please Peter." I stretch a hand out towards him and shake it. He looks at me with spooked eyes as he grabs my hand, and we rush out of the room.
"I can't believe I just let you do that." I growl under my breath as we walk through the main hall again towards the main laboratory.
I stomp through the archway and meet up with Gwen this was where the tour group would've circled back by the end. Peter forces a dry chuckle as he opens his mouth to explain.
"Alright. Give me the badge." She demands dryly, he sighs and unclips it from his jacket pocket.
"Sorry." I mumble, she looks at me disapprovingly before turning and walking away.
Peter exclaims out in a loud grunt of pain as he slaps a hand to his neck. I turn to him concerned, did a spider follow us out? I don't know how far Connors got with them in experiments.
"Are you okay?" I ask in a bit of a panic, but he nods with a furrowed brow.
"Yeah..." He breathes out, I sigh and walk him over to the escalader leading down to the lobby.
"You have to leave before Gwen murders me and turns you in." I grumble out and pull a pen out of my lab jacket pocket before jotting my digits down and ripping it off the paper.
"Here's my number, call me if you ever want advice on how not to get in jailing trouble." I give a humorful smile as he breathes a laugh taking it.
"Thanks, MJ." He gives me a humoring nod; I fight back a shiver as he says my name and pat his arm.
"Don't ever sneak in here again, Pete." I don't fake my stern tone, but I also don't hide the playful smile on my face, he hums and spins around hitting the side of the glass wall before walking out onto the moving stairs. Snorting, I turn around and walk over to Gwen.
