"Hey, I haven't seen you in a bit. Where've you been?" Gwen immediately inquires the moment she's at my side, linking our arms together. I smile at her; it was a bit of a bummer we haven't seen each other outside of school in a hot minute. Weird too. But the whole thing with Peter's been bogging up my schedule.
"Locked up like Rapunzel, to be honest." I say with a shrug, Gwen would understand, her dad was the captain of the police department, and worked closely with my mom.
She snorts and gives me a sympathetic look, "I'm sure that's been miserable—" She's cut off as a loud bang echoes through the school and screams follow right after.
I look around as kids from the hallway across from us start rushing out towards ours screaming, faces full of pure terror. My eyes meet Peters, and he immediately points down the way the others were running.
"Go! Go." He shouts, and Gwen tugs at my arm, I hesitate for a second. I didn't want to leave his side—but it's not like I could do anything serious if it's what it felt like it was. But I wanted to, it felt like an instinct.
But before I even step towards Peter, Gwen pulls my arm and drags me with her—giving me no choice in running. I slow us down by the fact I hadn't looked away from Peter yet. But my eyes did drift off him when the large reptile came into view.
And oh my god was this thing fucking horrifying. All long muscled and scaly limbs, bald head and reptilian eyes targeted right on Peter. Everything in me screamed to run towards him and help him. But I couldn't even fight something like that.

I lasted all about 5 minutes outside the school, anxiously pacing and Gwen trying to soothe me thinking I was scared about what we both saw inside. She wouldn't be wrong, but it was more about not knowing if Peter was okay or lizard food right now.
I slipped away from her after a moment that felt too long, running right back inside the school. I could hear banging and smashing; the fight was still very much active, and a chill ran down my spine when I see Peter get thrown through the small window of a door.
I hype myself up as I head straight for the trophy case, fuck this damn Lizard Man Thing. If he wanted to fuck with Peter, he'd also have to fuck with... me. Okay that may not be as threatening to him as maybe I'd like it to be. But trophies hurt when they hit you, right? So...
I carefully reach into the display that'd already been broken and grab onto the largest and most painful looking trophy, pulling it out with a grin. I rush towards the door I'd seen Peter through and push it open. My first glance is this thing holding Peter by the head against the window.
I rush forward, lifting the trophy over my shoulder before hitting the lizard as hard as I could on the head. He grunts and drops Peter, slowly leaning up to his full, terrifying, height. He looks down at me with those chilling eyes.
"Mary." He seethes my name and lifts a clawed hand to bring it down at me as I slowly back up. Peter reacts before anything bad could happen, his web attaching to the hand and he pulls it backward. Jumping up, he sprays web around him like a real Spider spinning its prey. Attaching strings to the ceiling to keep him from moving towards the exit like he was trying to.
I gasp when he shoots a web at the trophy I'm holding and pulls me forward, I stare at him kind of awestruck getting to see him in action up close. He grabs the trophy from me and literally throws it at the window to break it. He turns back to me and grabs me at the waist, pulling me in suddenly.
"I'm going to throw you out the window now." He says, my brows furrow and I look at him confused, was he actually serious?
"What? No—" I barely get the chance to fully say the damn word before I'm lifted up and tossed out the window, a web attaches to my stomach before I could really get a chance to fall. I shriek a bit and curl up against the string of web like it'd snap when I knew it wouldn't.

I stand a little far from Gwen as she's checked out by a paramedic, a little bit of an exaggerative measure but whatever. Safety and stuff...sure. I immediately attempt to call Peter; the boy had the audacity to toss me out of a window. A window. I'd have taken a push out the door, but a window?
He picks up after a few rings, "Where are you?" I question first and foremost, after I know he's okay I'll give him a few words. Like, 'don't ever throw me out a window again', etcetera.
"I'm fine. I'm okay. I'm down in the sewers, I'm tracking him. I gotta stop him before anyone gets hurt. But we need an antidote. Do you know how to run a serum?"
I nod, even though he can't see me. "Duh, I do it with Gwen all the time for Connors."
"Okay, great, great, great. Okay. L–l–listen, I need you to go to Oscorp. I need you to access the cross-species file. It's a blue serum. File 12389." He explains to me, stuttering slightly.
"Alright, I've got this. Be safe, Pete." I hang up after, looking back at Gwen for a moment—debating on telling her I'm leaving. I decide not to, she might ask too many questions, and this seems to be a time sensitive thing.

I manage to get up to the lab, took me a while—Gwen ended up seeing me trying to sneak off. I rush into the room and pull my keycard out before pushing it into the receiver, doing what I need to turn the thing on.
Not a few moments later is my phone ringing, loudly, it scared me out of my concentration. I fumble before grabbing it and hitting accept as I lift it to my ear, Peter's voice on the other end calms my nerves. "Hey, hey. Where are you?"
I furrow my brows; didn't he tell me to go to the lab? "I'm at Oscorps, why?" I can hear his heavy breathing on the other end, and it sparks those anxieties right back.
"You have to get out of there right now. Okay?"
"The antidote is cooking, Pete, I can't just leave it." I say, bringing a hand to my hair anxiously.
"No, no, no. Connors is on the way. He's coming to you right now. He needs the dispersement device. He's gonna infect the whole city."
I inhale sharply, staring at the countdown for how long the antidote will take till it's ready. "There's eight minutes left."
"You're gonna wait there for eight minutes after what I just told you?" He sounded exasperated, like I'd just delivered bad news. "People are gonna die! You leave right now. Listen, that is an order, okay?"
I look around the lab, I couldn't just leave the people left in the building to die. Just like Peter didn't want me here, I don't want them here. "I'm getting everyone out." I say, not giving him a chance to fight back as I hang up.
#
I look away from the machine, the countdown more-so, I'd already gotten everyone to clear out of the building by pulling the 'fire' alarm. So as the loud creaking noise echoed across the empty lab, it sounded like bending metal. It could only be one man.
I rush over to the dispersement device across the lab, hauling its heavy body halfway into my arms and run back to where I'd been before. I look around for a spot to hide and my only real option was a large cabinet. I open the door and step in first before dragging the machine in after me and closing the door.
I hold onto it as I hear Connors enter the lab, his footfalls heavy and loud alongside his heavy breathing. I hold my breath as the sounds grow closer, he passes the cabinet without incident. But the sounds stop not a second later and I can just hear his breathing.
He found me, didn't he? I'm gonna die. Oh my god this is how I'm gonna die, a psycho scientist that turned himself into a large reptile is going to kill me. I should've just listened to Peter and left after pulling the alarm. Slip out with everyone else.
Another second ticks by and he's in front of the cabinet and ripping it open with his claws, a scream rips itself out of me in instinct as he reaches inside. He just stares at me, grabbing the machine and nothing else. Not even sparing me another glance as he steps back and starts walking away with it.
What the fuck? I stand there, pressed against the back wall, nearly shitting my pants. All for nothing? I knew I'd be fine, take that Peter! Told you I could do it. I huff out a breath and step out as the machine cooking the antidote dings and an AI voice says, 'antidote complete'.
