I grab the railing of the stairs with a death grip as I leap over two steps at a time. The sounds of shattering glass and falling machines below me egging me on. I throw myself at the roof door and slam it open.

My eyes landing on Peter and Dr. Connors lashing it out with each other. His mask strewn about somewhere, face bloody and pinched up in anger and pain, Connors had him by his neck as he struggled.

"Peter!" I screamed, against better judgment. My heart setting into motion before my brain could catch up and I lifted a steel bar from the rubble and ran forward thrusting it at Connors. Clanking against his head he bowed it in reaction to the contact. A deep guttural growl left him as he slowly turned to look at me.

"Ah... Precious Mary Jane. My dear girl." He purred out, dropping Peter to wither in pain on the cement roof floor. He took slow tantalizing steps towards me.

"Don't do this, Connors. Please!" I take the begging route, hoping he had at least an ounce of humanity left within him.

"You think you can just beg? I'm doing something good! You should be thanking me, not trying to stop me!" He spits out his long clawed fingers fisting as he stops in front of me.

"Join me, Mary Jane. Join me in my world without weakness. Don't be held back by your human body." He growls out, bending down to be face level with me as he grinned.

"You aren't creating a world without weakness, Dr. Connors. There will forever be weakness, flaws within your system. Becoming mutant monsters isn't going to take that away!" I shouted at him, trying to make him see what he's doing is wrong.

"But you're wrong." He growled out and snatched a claw at me, grabbing me up like I was a ragdoll. His fist squeezing my neck as I gasped and thrashed around my fingers clawing at his scaled wrist.

"MJ!" I look behind Connors as Peter clenches his stomach and sits up his face desperate as he tries getting up. As he tries getting to me, it was obvious he was struggling with his wounds.

"You could be stronger. Faster. Smarter. Limitless, join me." He purred out, his reptilian eyes boring into me. His fist flexing around my neck, I gasped and clenched my jaw.

"Never." I choke on another gasp as a searing pain ripped through me, my spine going numb as it coiled up around me. I felt my body slam into the cement as he drops me, the antidote rolling out of my hand. A pathetic chuckle leaving him.

"Mary!" I hear Peter scream as I choked on my own gasps and cries.

I lay still on the gravel, debris sprawled out around me. Thick clouds of dust and smoke fill the air as I cough, a cold liquid dripping down my lips. I could feel everything still, which was good—it meant I wasn't paralyzed.

"MJ! Hey... hey. You're okay." Peter rushes out, dropping down next to me hurriedly checking over my body and face. His brown hair was a mess when he finally meets my eyes with concern swirling in his own.

"I'm okay... don't... don't worry." I manage to gasp out. He smiles at me, tears in his beautiful brown eyes. I felt his left hand firmly press down on my stomach making me let out a pained cry.

"I'll get you help... stay with me. Please just stay awake, Mary." He goes to lift my body, but I stop him. Cupping his face with a trembling hand that I could barely hold up. My body contorted in pain at his attempts.

"Shh... It's okay, just be with me." I whisper my eyes drooping shut, suddenly exhausted, all the struggle, the pain. He lets out a cry holding onto my upper half. "I'll be okay... we'll be okay." I cough harshly, a copper taste filling my mouth.
