Days had passed since the event that took place on the beach. Or had it been weeks? You didn't bother to keep count.
You kept yourself holed up in the celestial realm, going through your patrols as usual and keeping to yourself.
It...cleared your mind and allowed you certain thoughts to die off the longer you strayed from them. Eventually, you would have to return to the mortal realm sooner or later. Despite wanting to keep your distance, you still felt the pangs of loneliness eating away at you heart.
By the eleventh day, you couldn't stand the quiet atmosphere of the orchard and decided to descended into the mortal realm. You dressed in your disguise and strolled leisurely through the crowded market area.
Perhaps it was out of instinct or a hidden desire to see the dark-furred macaque, but by the end you finished some of the street food you bought you were in front of the theater.
You glanced at the locked double doors and turned on your heel. If he wasn't there, then he must be at Wukong's temple. You took your time walking all the way over, appreciating the sights and taking some more time to delay the inevitable.
Of course, time was never on your side and within a blink of an eye you arrived at Wukong's temple. The fur on the nape of your neck rose as you heard the distant sound of concrete cracking. Your brows furrowed as you picked up your pace.
You took a hesitate step towards the temple and jumped back when a familiar piece of furniture was thrown out of the window. You stared at the couch for a while before scrambling for the window. You peered inside and saw that the inside of the temple was...damaged to say the least, and the two monkey's you were avoiding all this time stood on opposite sides of the room.
"It's getting a bit tiring having to deal with you all the time," Wukong spat, he brushed off the pieces of dust that clung to his face.
"Then quit the chit-chat and come here," Macaque smirked as he made a 'come hither' motion.
Wukong only rolled his eyes before charging at Macaque. The dark-furred monkey leapt back to avoid Wukong's fist, as it connected to the wall pieces flew out of the newly created hole. This continued for a while, the two of occasionally exchanged blows until the fight was forcefully moved outside.
Wukong was the first to notice that your unamused stare and didn't dodge the kick that landed on his face. You winced as you watched the simian's body slam into a tree.
"What's wrong, Monkey King? Something on your mi-" Macaque's words stopped in his throat as he landed on the ground, his head shifted to the side and his eyes landed on you.
The three of you entered a staring contest as the silence continued.
"Sooo....nice weather we're having, huh?" Wukong sheepishly smiled.
"I suppose," You replied. You walked over to the thrown couch and picked it up with one hand. You sat the furniture upright and sat down with one leg over the other. You feigned ignorance as the two of them rushed to dust themselves off and fixed their disheveled appearances.
"Now, are we going to finally have a conversation or do I need to wait another hundred years before that can happen?" You still held onto your stoic expression as you turned your head to direct your gaze at the two of them. Both boys flinch at your tone and shard a glance between each other.
Macaque sighed as his shoulders dropped, "I guess I-"
"-depends, can I get one more punch in before we-" Wukong butted in before he was silenced by your stare.
"Okay, shutting up right now."
You softened your gaze and patted the empty spaces on the couch. The two of them came over to sit on either side of you; Wukong on your left while Macaque saw on your right. The silence was...awkward to say the least.
Wukong was bouncing his leg as he tapped his fingers against his knee, Macaque was simply lounging against the couch and 'yawned' before resting his arm around your shoulders. It didn't take the king long to notice before he shot a glare at the smug monkey.
"You know it's been quite some time since we were all together like this," You started as you leaned to rest against Macaque's shoulder. You hand came up to rest upon Wukong's bouncing knee, which came to a freezing halt as Wukong felt tense at your touch.
"Yeah?" Wukong uttered.
You nodded and felt the heavy weight on your shoulders disappear. Slowly but surely, the three of you started...talking. If one could entertain calling it a conversation at it, it was like pulling teeth from how dodgy Wukong was being. Oh, and the snarky remarks from Macaque didn't help either.
Despite all of this, the talk lasted till the sun began it's descent in the sky.
As the moon began it's nightly rounds, the three monkeys were found dozing off on the couch. For the first time in a long time, together they were at peace.
