Chapter 28

It was a short night for Kate, spending the night thinking, watching her sister sleep, whispering her girlfriend's name and her own. Thinking back over the past two months, what the girls have done for her once again, she blames herself, knowing she's going to hurt them, but the plan for the three of them to live together is quickly fell through, with Kris spending several nights a week with her, and then the arrival of Cameron, putting a damper on her relationship with Kris. This apartment, as cute as it is, is not made for a couple, a couple with a horse. Kate had discussed it with Kris and this one had first thrown herself into her arms by kissing her, retaining only the fact of them living together. Kris had searched a long time for the perfect place, not too far away for work, the restaurant, the girls, suitable for Gibson. It was a challenge that she had accepted and taken up. Kris had confessed to her that she was a city girl, and that the idea of living in nature had never interested her until the ranch, when she came across the photographs of this house and this land, she fell in love, immediately sending the link to Kate, writing only a heart as a message. Kate quietly glanced at the various photographs, recognizing that Gibson would be fine, and she, too, was located, coincidentally a few miles from where Gibson was boarding, in the hills of Topanga Canyon.

"Are you sure of yourself?" she asked, calling her from her little wooded area where she freshens up every day.

"Yes Kate. I want to live with you, ride a horse by your side. I want... us.

— Me too, my beautiful Kristina. I need to talk to the girls, then I'll submit an offer to purchase.

— I love you.

— Kris...

— Yes?

— I love you more," she said, hanging up.

Kate had almost told her about her last report, about what the doctor had told her, but she preferred to keep quiet, telling herself that this ranch in the middle of nature was what she needed. Despite all the good will of the girls, her little wooded area was not enough.

Sitting at the table, cup of tea in hand, she greeted the girls when they got up.

"Hi. I'd like to talk to you," she said in a serious voice.

"You want to leave," Abigail replied, sitting down across from Kate.

"It's just... with Kris.

— It's normal, Kate. You were starting your relationship and Cameron came along," Tilly reassures her, her hands on Kate's.

"Are you going to stay with Kris? But... and for your health?" Abigail worries.

"Actually, we found a ranch, not far from where Gibson is.

— That's good, nature, Gibson and Kris," Abigail agrees. "What about Cameron?

— I haven't spoken to her yet.

— She can stay here," Tilly decides. "She has a room for herself and it will be more convenient with Uma.

— But...

— Whatever is going through your mind," Tilly cuts, "Cameron works with me, studies here with Uma, so it's only fitting that she stays here. She is part of the family.

— Hello," Cameron surprises them as they descend the stairs.

"Hi, little sister," Kate kisses her.

"Do we have a family council?" she asks, sitting down. "I made a mistake?

— No, you didn't do anything," Tilly reassures her. "Do you like working with me at the restaurant?

— Yes of course. I feel good in the restaurant and with you.
