Mina and I haven't spoken in days. Michael has slowly been interviewing everyone. They're all scared, scared that they won't make it to the sanctuary. I've lost all hope. All I want is for Mina to be taken, she deserves some sort of happiness.

Mina's POV

"You have a gift for making the ugly look presentable" he told me. "Order on the outside does wonders to keep the chaos safely on the inside"

"I'm onto you" I whispered. "You've created your own rules in here. I understand why. I'm sure it was impossible to resist the temptation of making this place over in your image, especially when you thought that no one who knew any better would ever be around to notice" he said sinisterly.

"I'm not sure what you're talking about" I decided to play dumb. As Y/N said, he knows a lot about people and I just can't understand why. "Complete abstinence? Punishable by summary execution?" he scoffed.

"I received my orders in an encrypted communiqué from The Co-op before all communication lines went down" I lied. "Do you have it?" he then asked me. "No, I do not" I panicked, he knows. "The orders were to destroy it after I read it"

"Odd" he whispered. "I was instrumental in drafting all of the directives in regard to the running
of the outposts" he confessed. *shit*

"And nothing would be more humiliating to a man such as yourself than to learn that a woman had more information than he did" I kept my demeanor as I spoke, something I learned that I was good at over the years. "A man such as myself?" he then asked me.

"You... and the others. Masters of the universe, titans of industry... swinging your dicks around
so much that you managed to blow the whole world to hell" I spoke with anger.

"You're a fighter. I like that about you" he smiled. "I'm just doing my best with the mess men
made of things" I made sure that my point that men are terrible at doing their jobs was heard.

"Maybe that's what was needed around here, hmm? Some improvisation. I'm gonna give you some important information instead. You're the leader in here. You need to understand
what's at stake, what's really going on out there" he said, circling me.

"On the way here, I came across a woman. A young mother with two children. They were some of the unlucky ones who were far enough from the blast radius to survive the fireball but... not the radiation" he began telling me, leaving me scared. It could have been me, or worse, Y/N.

"They were covered in tumors. Sores. Their lungs were burnt by the toxic air. After a few moments, I realised that the child she was carrying in her arms was already dead" my heart sank as he spoke.

"She was begging for us to murder her other child out of pity. Mercy. She didn't have the strength to do it herself, so she prayed for someone to come along and do it for her"

"Did you?" I asked, hoping that he had the decency to help the poor mother out. "No" he confessed, with a defying smirk.

"So... who deserves a shot at salvation?" he asked. "Let's start with... Coco Saint Pierre Vanderbilt" he smiled. *is this part of the initiation?* I asked myself.

"The Vanderbilt girl is a vacuous abomination of inbreeding. She'd be my last choice to propagate the human race. The hairdresser is a cowardly homosexual. His grandmother is a
festering pustule who just will not die" I told him. My thoughts were factual. Not a single soul was deserving of survival... apart from-

"And the talk show host..." he interrupted my thoughts. "Well, actually, I don't know
that much about that one" I confessed.

"At this rate, it sounds like you and I will have The Sanctuary all to ourselves" he smiled, making me smile too. "But... there's one we have forgotten" he suddenly said. "And that is?" I asked. "Y/N" he smirked. "Tell me about her"

I thought for a second... I could either tell the truth or lie.

"Y/N is quiet. I don't really see or speak to her very much. She likes to keep herself to herself and in all the time I've known her, that's just the way it has been" I said confidently. "Ah... Ms. Venable! You are an incredible liar" he said, placing his hand on my shoulder. I felt sick.

"There is so much more to Y/N than you care to let on... isn't there" Michael spoke with venom laced into his voice. I tried my hardest not to scream in his face and tell him exactly how I feel about her. "What are you hiding Ms Venable" he stated, his hands ghosting around my head. I stared at the wall before me, praying for it to end.

He circled around me once more before standing behind me. I could feel his hot breath on the nape of my neck.

"Come. There's no need for us to be adversaries, Ms. Venable. Take off your dress" he said suddenly. I was offended and scared. "I will not" I told him.

"Part of your cooperation includes a physical examination"

"You can read my file" I said, trying to prevent him from looking at my hideous disfiguration. "Your file won't show me what I need to see. Your shame. I want to see that part of you that humiliates you the most. You won't get a second chance"

I stood stiff, as he unzipped my dress. The only person who has ever seen me in my true form was Y/N. I was even scared to show her...

"Does it hurt?" he asked. "No" I shakily said, fighting back the tears as he ran his fingers down my curved spine. "But does it bring you great pain?" he was now inches away from my face.

"Yes" I answered. "Is this part of my test?" I asked, hoping it was and he didn't make me do this for no reason. "Isn't everything?"

"So, then... do I pass?" I asked, his lips now almost touching mine. I had to suppress that sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach.

"No" was all he said before walking away, leaving me incredibly vulnerable.
