It had just been a shitty week, Ruth thought as she ran beside her husband through the streets of New York. Her leg throbbed with every step threatnening to buckle if her husband didnt have a grip on her. Not that John was doing much better as he held his own wounds, they came to a stop in an alley both leaning against the wall heaving in breaths.

Across town the Lyon family argued with each other "There must be something we can do." Jamie said tiredly as he leaned against a table, his brother shook his head "Ruth knew what she was doing."

"She knew the rules before she could talk, like most children know not to take candy from strangers, she broke them." Henri told his son as his wife stomped across the room twirling a dagger in her hand "This is all because of that husband of hers, I told you from the moment he came into Ruth's life he would be dangerous."

"You cant blame him momma, John's a good guy..." At all of his families looks Daniel added "Deep down under the heart of a homicidal maniac.... Not that any of us have room to talk."

The family simply grew quiet until Deborah's phone went off she answered it "Hello darling..."

There was silence on the other end before a soft voice whispered "Forgive me for what I have been ordered to do Mother."Then the phone went silent and Debroah looked to her family with pain in her eyes "There is no end to the cruelty of the High Table, is there?"

At the Continental Marcus was greeted by Charon at the door "I do hope that Mr and Mrs. Wick finds their way to safety." Charon said as they entered causing his boss to shrug "They knew the rules, they broke them. And killed two men on company grounds, Charon."

The concierge waited a moment before he asked "Do you expect them to make it out?"

"$14 million bounty on both their heads. And every interested party in this city wants a piece of it. I'd say the odds are about even."

Ruth glanced up as the voice of the same man who had taken them to the Bowery King before called out "You think the hospital's there to help, man? No way! They'll kill you just as soon as they'll make you better! But I know better, man. I know better. I know what I'm..." The madness stopped and the man revealed a watch as he looked to the two assassins "Tick tock, Mr and Mrs. Wick. Tick tock. Tick tock. Tick tock. Tick..."

John pulled Ruths arm dragging her down the alley as the man shouted after them "No time to dilly-dally!"

They ran to the road where John hailed a cab and the dogs hopped in before their humans followed them.

"The New York Public Library." John told the drover causing his wife to frown in confusion, of all the places she had expected him too say that was not one.

"You got it." The drover told him as they pulled out, John reached over taking his wifes hand in his own, then the can stopped as around them the New York traffic was at a standstill. Ruth groaned as she leaned forward "Change of plan. Take the dogs to the Continental." She handed him her past gold coin "Can you see that they're received by the concierge?"

The driver nodded "Yes ma'am, Mrs. Wick."

The husband and wife both petted their dogs affectionately before they hopped out of the cab and again began running through the streets. Ruth didnt waste her breath asking why they were going to the Library, sometimes it was better to be surprised.
