( CHAPTER FIFTEEN: A WATCHFUL EYE )
September, 1995.

❛ you better play your cards right, cain.

"Where the hell have you been?" Jamal grunted, watching as Tyler calmly shifted through the door with a blank expression on his face. The thief shrugged off his jacket, his sharp set of eyes snapping up at Marcus and Niles, who cautiously stood in the quaint kitchen that occupied Jamal's apartment. Once they saw Tyler entering through the front door, there was a tenseness in the air. The last time Tyler was in contact with either of his friends, he had just discovered that Niles was now screwing Anna, his former fling. Hardly something that any man would take well.

But they knew a man like Tyler Cain used his anger to plot. His fury was not loud, or explosive— it was just... menacing. Tyler possessed a quiet, simmering rage that would fester, and strike you when you least expect it. And the outcome, oh, it was just horrible. Exhibit A: Tommy Mottola. Nowadays, whenever Tyler was angry, his friends just left him the hell alone. Unfortunately this time, it seemed as though Tyler's wrath was unavoidable.

Niles shifted nervously under Tyler's gaze, expecting to see a frightening amount of rage boiling in those cunning hazel eyes of his. Before he could detect any emotion however, Tyler turned towards Jamal.  "I was spending time with my sisters," Tyler curtly replied, keeping his words minimal, "Tommy's away in Italy."

"Really?" Marcus asked, stepping forward.

"Yes," Tyler replied, approaching the cheap, bulky computer that sat on Jamal's wooden work desk, "So we have to act fast."

"Well, we're almost done hacking into Tommy's security system," Jamal announced, but Tyler was already shaking his head. "I figured out a way to hack the cameras more easily, with this—" the biracial male announced, raising his hand to present a small, black chip sitting in his large palm.

"What is that?" Niles asked, staring at the device with the upmost of confusion. They all were perplexed, and as always, Tyler had to catch them up to speed. "It's a micro-chip, if you place it on the main security system, then it'll dub the server and give us access to every camera in that house," Tyler explained, "When I go to Bedford today, I'll sneak in and find the main security room."

"How'd you get your hands on that?" Marcus asked, 'wowing' in amazement at the chip. Tyler could tell that his friends were partly perplexed at the thought of someone as broke as Tyler acquiring this magical piece of technology. However, information like that was confidential. They might've been his friends, but Tyler never trusted anyone, fully.
